Jimi Hendrix & the Experience had made their name in England & Europe during early 1967 and in June they played the Monterey Pop Festival and the end of the set Jimi burnt his guitar and the performance led to string of gigs that made his name in the US as well. In the following year 1968 he was booked by Bill Graham to play the Winterland Ballroom for three nights, 10-12th October 1968, two shows a night. All the shows were recorded on multi track and eventually the tapes fell into the hands of Alan Douglas after Jimi Hendrix's death in 1970. He persuaded Rykodisk in the US to issue a selection of the material as a double album, digitally re-mastered and re-mixed for the first time and issued on CD as well as vinyl in 1987. The release went worldwide and in Europe Polydor issued their version using both Dutch and German pressing plants, but not in the UK and the album was re-imported for sale at the time. It was re-issued as an expanded 4 CD box set in the US in 1992, but this time not in Europe or the UK!!!

The EU printed glossy sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some very light corner/edge wear and some light storage scuffing on the outer cover. The spine is intact and fully readable, the plain inners are intact and the foldout poster is intact & in EX+ condition.   The records are in visually EX+ condition, with only a couple of faint & wispy sleeve removal hairlines and one or two light bag/needle scuffs visible on each side that do not affect play. The labels are in EX+ condition, clean & bright with evidence of one or two faint spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX+, still clear & precise throughout with no loud pops, hiss or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, just some brief background noise on the run in grooves.
Overall, a really great, loud & clear listen.   The matrix nos. are; 833005, 1-S-1-320 mother stamper 1, 1-S-2-2-320 mother stamper 1 & 833066, 1-S-1-320 stamper 3, 1-S-2-320 stamper 3.
This is one of the early copies of the original 1987 stereo 1st issue of this great album!
