Country Joe & The Fish, Fixin To Die, Orig UK Fontana Mono LP, EX/EX+ 1st Press. Country Joe & The Fish, Fixin To Die, Orig UK Fontana Mono LP, EX/EX+ 1st Press. Description This is the original 1967 mono issue with the UK laminated flipback sleeve and matt black Fontana labels, with the earliest 1-L 2-L matrices and 1-1- stampers of the earliest presses!

The second album from Country Joe & The Fish recorded between July to September 1967 in New York and released in the US in November 1967. The band had been signed by a New York independant record label Vangaurd (which specialized in Classical and Folk music), in December 1966. Their first album was recorded in Berkeley California in February 1967 and as a part of the San Francisco scene was an instant success. Vangaurd did not have contacts in Europe so affilliated with Philips Records and in the UK their subsiduary Fontana Records took on the band.
The follow up album was recorded in New York in July to September the same year and features their signature anti-war song. By the beginning of 1968 Vanguard had renegotiated with Philips to release their records on their own label in the UK and both albums were re-released on the black Vangaurd label (the gold labels date from after 1970, when they transferred first to RCA, then PYE!), but only in stereo, making the first press Fontana mono copies of both albums exceedingly rare today!!

The UK front laminated flipback sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear & a little laminate storage rubbing on the front cover, with some light rubbing on the unlaminated rear and a small name/date in biro on one corner. The spine is intact and fully readable, the printed company inner is intact & dated 067, with some light foxing/creasing & in EX condition.   The record is in visually EX+ condition, with only a couple of faint sleeve removal hairlines and one or two light needle scuffs visible on each side. The labels are in EX+ condition, clean & bright with evidence of one or two faint spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX+, still clear & precise throughout with no loud hiss or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some brief background noise during the run in grooves.
Overall, just a really great, loud & clear listen.

The matrix nos. are; 6087-1L-3-420 stamper 1-1-, 6087-2L-1-420 stamper 1-, This is one of the earliest first few hundred copies of the first & only pressing of the original 1967 UK mono issue of this album!
