Earth Opera, Great American Eagle Tragedy, Orig UK Elektra Mono LP EX/EX 1st Pr. Description

This is the original 1969 UK mono issue with the first label variant with the rough orange & silver big 'E' Elektra labels, the earliest A-1 B-1 matrices and A-2/A-4 stampers of the first pressings!!

Peter Rowan and David Grisman were folk performers in Boston clubs, who became caught up in the changes in the music scene during the mid-1960s. They formed Earth Opera in 1967 and were joined by John Nagy on bass, Paul Dillon on drums, Bill Stevenson on keyboards and often supported the Doors on tour. Their second album was recorded after Bill Stevenson had quit and included guest musicians, including John Cale. The album was moderately successful making the US charts, but the group split up in late 1969 and Peter Rowan went on to join Seatrain.

The MacNeill Press matt sleeve sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear and some light storage rubbing on the cover. The spine is intact and, with light wear and mostly readable, the plain company inner is intact & in VG+ condition.

The record is in visually EX condition, with a few faint hairlines and a couple of light needle marks & scuffs visible on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of spindle markings on each side.

The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise with no loud clicks or pops and definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some low background noise during the run in grooves and briefly in a couple of the quieter passages.
Overall, a really great, loud and clear listen.

The matrix nos. are; EKL-4038, A-1 stamper A-2, B-1 stamper A-4. This is one of the early copies of the 1st pressing of the original 1969 UK mono issue of this album!
