Description
This is the original UK CBS stereo pressing with the rough Blue Horizon labels, the gatefold matt sleeve and the A-1 B-1 matrices & A-9 A-8 stampers of the earliest issues!
The fourth album by Chicken Shack was recorded between December 1969 to March 1970 and then released in June. The band had been successful with Christine Perfect featuring as the vocalist of their hit 'I'd Rather Go Blind', but after she recorded her own solo album in 1969 she quit the band. Stan Webb recruited Paul Raymond of Plastic Penny as their new pianist and recorded a new album at CBS Studios, London at the end of 1969. This marked a move for the band away from blues towards a new more psychadelic rock sound. The album also marked the end of their Blue Horizon contract and by early 1971, all the other band members went off to join Savoy Brown!
The E.J. Day Group matt gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear and some storage rubbing on the outer cover, with some light storage rubbing on the inner cover. The spine is intact, with some rubbbing and fully readable and the plain company inner is intact, is creased & in VG+ condition.
The record is in visually EX condition, with only a couple of faint hairlines and one or two small needle scuffs/marks visible on each side. The labels are in EX+ condition, undamaged, clean & bright with evidence of only one or two faint spindle markings on each side.
The sound reproduction is EX+, still clear & precise throughout, with definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some brief background noise during the run in grooves.
Overall, just a really great, loud & clear listen.
The matrix nos. are; S7-63861, A-1 mother stamper A-9, B-1 mother stamper A-8. This is one of the early pressings of the original 1970 UK stereo issue of this classic album!
