Description
This is the original 1968 UK Philips black label stereo issue,
with the gatefold sleeve, the 1Y//1 2Y//1 matrices and early 1-8 1-8 stampers of the very first presses.
Blue Cheer's second album was originally released in August 1968 and was a mix of live or outdoor sessions and studio tracks recorded in various places in New York City earlier in the year. It was the last album to feature the original line up as Leigh Stephens quit soon after its release. The cover was designed and drawn by their manager Allen 'Gut' Turk, an ex-Hells Angel and the last album to feature their original line-up under his watch....
The front laminated gatefold sleeve is intact & in VG+ condition, with some edge scuffing & corner wear, with a couple of small laminate creases and some light laminate rubbing, but there is some wavyness on the rear cover. The spine is worn and the lower part has been repaired, the plain company inner is intact, discoloured & in VG+ condition.
The record is in visually VG+ condition, with a few faint sleeve removal hairlines and some light needle marks and scuffs visible on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a few spindle markings on each side.
The sound reproduction is VG+ to EX, still clear & precise throughout with definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some low background noise during the run in grooves and briefly in a couple of the quieter passages.
Overall, still a really great, loud & clear listen, that plays much better than it looks!
The matrix nos. are; 852120, 1Y//1 stamper 1-8, 2Y//1 stamper 1-8. This is one of early copies of the first pressing of the original UK stereo issue of this classic 1968 album!
