Pink Floyd : Animals A-2 / B-2 1st Press
This first pressing plays with great quality and S1 in particular is stunning!  It has one of the finest versions of 'Dogs' that I have ever heard with no interference and even the end section has no distortion which is such a rarity.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio on this side is so good!  S2 is also very impressive - there are a few brief static 'moments' on the first track but they are quiet and there is nothing that stands out.  No clicks or pops either.  The vinyl is visually stunning also and has clearly not been played very much.
The gatefold is one of the finest examples you are ever likely to see!  It has been looked after so well and has hardly ever been handled down the years, it is superb!  The lyric inner is also in lovely condition with no side splits, a genuine rarity.
As this is a first press it has the A2/B2 matrix and the cover has no barcode on the back.  The lyric inner also has the rounded corners.

The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T1 Near Mint-)
The audio on S2 is Mint(-) (T1 ranges between Ex+ and Mint-)
The gatefold is Near Mint-
The labels are Mint-
The lyric inner is Near Mint
Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still retains a superb glossy sheen with no dulling to the surface.  There are no marks or scratches and only a small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines.  There are only 3/4 faint spindle traces on the S1 labels and just the one on S1, a stunning example!
Play grading
The acoustic 'Pigs On The Wing (Part One)' plays with great clarity overall with just one very brief static 'moment' at the end of the fourth line.  This lasts for not even half a second and the rest of the track is nigh on perfect with only a couple of very quiet ticks.  I think Near Mint- is a fair assessment of the audio here.
The slow build into 'Dogs' plays with perfect precision and the opening vocal has no 'background' either.  The second verse is equally as good and Gilmour's first solo is 'as new' also.  It continues to play with sublime quality and the quieter acoustic section after Gilmour's second solo is a prime example of that.  With no interference the playback is stunning and the fourth verse more than keeps up this exemplary standard.  The following quieter instrumental is mind-blowing!  So often it plays with some static or worse but there is no 'background' here aside from a couple of barely audible dust ticks.  Into the final two verses and they also have no interference, just a couple of dust ticks again that hardly require a mention.  The remainder of this classic plays with impeccable quality and the end 'Who was...' section in particular.  For once it plays with no distortion and that is just so rare!  I often think the first A2/B2 pressing should not have been put on general release due to how this final section generally plays but the sonic quality here I think negates that theory!  It may well be the 'cleanest' end section I have heard.  This truly is a STUNNING version and I will grade as Mint- although I am sure many would omit the minus!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intro on 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' is very impressive with only a touch of mega light static and a couple of minor static ticks.  That makes it sound worse than it is, it still plays exceptionally well!  The opening two verses play very clearly with only a small number of minor static 'moments' that are hardly intrusive and there are no clicks or pops.  The long instrumental passage is then close to perfect with only minimal static for a couple of seconds and the final verse then plays with outstanding quality, just one static sound that lasts for a millisecond!  The closing solo could not play any better and the fade out has no 'background' at all.  I would say this grades between Ex+ and Mint- but certainly more of the latter.
For once the quiet intro on 'Sheep' plays so clearly with barely any 'background'.  All I picked up were a couple of light statics that is all, the clarity is stunning.  The opening two verses are also spectacular!  The audio definition and power is 'as new' and the instrumental that follows is just as strong, I heard just two mega light ticks.  The Lord is my shepherd section is so often beset with sound issues I find and yet there are only a couple of dust ticks at the beginning here.  The final verse and instrumental end section finish this classic in sublime style with no interference.  A Mint- version.   'Pigs On The Wing (Part 2)' ends the album with wonderful clarity and...no interference.  This album is of course now 46 years old so for this quiet acoustic number to play so clearly is a rarity and Mint is the only grade I can give.
In summary this genuine first press plays to a superb standard and S1 especially is stunning.  As audiophiles will know S2 is never as strong as S1 but I am pleased to say here the sonic quality is actually very impressive.  Yes there are a small number of static 'moments' but they are hardly intrusive and there are no clicks or pops which makes a change.  With so many quiet sections the clarity could hardly be any better.  In a sense it's the end section on S1 that really stands out because as stated there is always some distortion but in my opinion there is none here.  A 'high end' first press overall.
The Gatefold & Lyric Inner
This cover is another Floyd cover that is often found in not very good / poor condition so I am pleased to say this one has been preserved incredibly well and has retained original shape and structure perfectly.  The edges are so clean with only a couple of tiny barely visible 'specks' and the wide spine is indeed perfect with no wear.  The lack of corner wear is another thing that stands out and the opening edge as no handling wear either.  The front cover is in beautiful condition with only two minor 'specks' and a handful of very small faint creases around the edges.  I would say it has hardly ever been opened as the edge next to the spine is just so clean, no obvious creases at all.  The back cover is just as impressive with no marking, just one small shite mark next to the bottom edge.  The inside of the gatefold is immaculate and for once the inner spine is undamaged.  A stunning first press cover in every way.
You will not be surprised to hear that the lyric inner, with the three cut corners, is in superb shape with no side splits - how rare is that!  There is barely any creasing either, just one mega small rub on the bottom edge and a handful of tiny white specks on the edges.  As near to perfect as is possible!
