Pink Floyd : Ummagumma A-1 / B-2 / A-1 / B-3 1st Press
This first pressing plays to a fantastic standard with barely any intrusion, arguably no intrusion!  There are no clicks or pops and only the bare minimum of light static which is mainly just on the one track 'Set The Controls...' but even then it is very quiet and only lasts for about one minute.  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is stunning and nowhere is that more obvious than on the studio album which is so close to 'as new'.  The sonic quality on this record is spectacular!  The first record also plays with stunning quality also!  The vinyls are very impressive visually and have clearly been very carefully looked after over the last 53 years.
The gatefold is very rarely seen as 'clean' as this.  It has only very minimal shelf wear and there is nothing that stands out.  The original inner sleeves are also in excellent order and have poly-lined inners placed inside which have no doubt helped maintain the records.
This is known as one of the first press variations.  There is no EMI logo on the labels and has Grand misspelled as Gand on the S4 label.  The cover has London spelled correctly on the back so is the second variation.  It really is in superb condition!  S4 also has the rare G 1 stamper/mother.
SHDW 1/2 // A-1 / B-2 / A-1 / B-3 // GT 2 / MA 2 / RP 2 / G 1
The audio on S1 is Near Mint
The audio on S2 is Near Mint / Mint- (T1 Ex+ for one minute)
The audio on S3 is Mint(-) (T1 ranges between Near Mint- and Mint-)
The audio on S4 is Mint(-) (T1 Ex intro for first 4/5 seconds)
The gatefold is Ex+
The labels are Ex+ / Near Mint
The inner sleeves are Ex
Visual description   Both records are in great condition and still have a strong glossy sheen especially the second one.  The first has been played more judging by the spindle wear but has still been very well looked after and only has a couple of longish hairline marks.  However, they are still faint and have no affect on the audio.  Aside from that it has only some very faint sleeve removal hairlines that you always find.  The second record is in lovely condition with only a small number of faint hairlines and only very minimal spindle wear.  The labels are very clean with no marking.
Play grading
The intro on 'Astronomy Domine' has only the lightest of static for the first 4/5 seconds and of course it is totally non-intrusive.  As it builds the audio is superb and then the opening vocal section plays to perfection.  It continues in the same precise way with no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  Perhaps just a hint of distortion on the top end but so so minor and it really is hardly noticeable.  It still plays with great power and definition and then the quiet passage plays with sublime clarity also, it really is STUNNING!  The final section does not disappoint as there is just no interference.  This isn't far off Mint- if I'm honest but Near Mint is definitely a fair reflection of the audio.
'Careful With That Axe, Eugene' has a couple of minor static ticks right at the start and then the remainder of this quiet opening plays with exceptional quality.  So quiet and yet there is no background, the clarity is out of this world!  Once the volume ramps up the playback could not be any stronger throughout this entire section.  There is no distortion and the quiet finale has just one light tick early on and a couple of quiet dull sounds (not exactly clicks) right at the end.  Another stunning version that again has to grade as Near Mint but yes the vast majority is better than that!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The percussive intro on 'Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun' is faultless and the next quiet section plays with great clarity with only 3/4 light dust ticks.  The first vocal is of the same standard and from then onwards there is nothing that detracts from the audio.  Ok this album has been played a number of times but the audio shows just how well it has been looked after as it has lost none of its original sonic quality.  Clearly owned by a genuine collector and not trashed at smoke filled / drug filled parties!  The 'louder' section plays with incredible audio and the next quiet passage just has some light static for the first minute I would say and a couple of minor static ticks.  It is quiet and the music is still very much to the fore - non-intrusive basically.  The final very quiet section including the vocal plays with perfectly clarity.  The majority is Near Mint and that one minute passage is Ex+
The long intro on 'A Saucerful Of Secrets' plays so clearly with no interference - rarely have I heard this live version play as well as this.  Remember this is a 53 year old vinyl with a number of very quiet sections!  The clarity is just incredible!  As the volume builds the quality is still there and then Mason's percussive section has no background either - not a short section either!  It continues to play with great clarity and the organ 'recital' is of the same high end standard as is the final vocal section.  This may well the finest version of this classic that I have ever heard on a Ummagumma album and Mint- is richly deserved.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------   Having played every 'part' of 'Sysyphus' I can safely say they all play with stunning precision with barely any intrusion.  A handful of very quiet dust ticks and one light static tick during the piano piece and some very minor static during Part 3.  It still grades as Near Mint- as it is so minimal and the other three parts range between Near Mint and Mint but certainly more of the latter.
The 'nature' intro on 'Grantchester Meadows' plays beautifully and the vocal and instrumental sections play with STUNNING clarity from then onwards.  The most 'complete' version I have heard?  Very possibly the clarity is 'as new' from the first note to the last.  An outstanding Mint version and so rarely found as good as this.
'Several Species...' also plays with impeccable quality with...no interference.  This second vinyl has clearly been played less than the live album first and the overall sonic quality is exceptional throughout.  This is Mint you will not hear better!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intro on 'The Narrow Way (Part 1)' has only some light static for the first 4/5 seconds only and then this acoustic number plays perfectly with not even a solitary tick.  So let's say say Ex for the intro but Mint from then on.  Part 2 plays with wonderful precision from start to finish and Part 3 is STUNNING!  Every vocal and instrumental section play like they have never been played before no word of a lie!  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is second to none and measure of this clarity is evident on the long fade out which has no background whatsoever.
Part 1 of 'The Grand Vizier's Garden Party' again plays with remarkable clarity.  There is not even any underlying static, the playback is crystal clear.  The even quieter Part 2 is just as impressive with just one minor static tick and then Part 2 ends this unique album with outstanding sonic quality once more.  Maybe not everyone's 'cup of tea' but there is no denying the quality on offer here.  Mason's contribution also grade as Mint and there cannot be many of those around today.  99% of this side is 'as new' which has to be a genuine rarity.
In summary this early variation first pressing has to be one of the finest examples I have heard in many a year.  The clarity and definition of the audio is superb and there are no clicks or pops on any of the sides and only very minimal static the majority of which is during that passage on 'Set The Controls...' which still happens to play every clearly.  I mean the live album plays with stunning quality but the second record just takes the sonic quality to another level!  In conjunction with a great cover this will certainly impress any avid collector.
The Gatefold & Lyric Inner
The laminated gatefold is in great condition, one of the best I have seen.  The edges are perfect and the wide spine is super clean with just one small indentation.  No markings otherwise and it remains 100% legible.  The corners on all sides are in superb shape also with barely any wear - only the one bottom left has minimal creasing which can also be seen on the reverse side of the back cover.  The opening edges have hardly any handling wear and are just slightly 'wavy' near the bottom.  The front cover is in lovely condition with no marking or laminate wear and the back cover is just as impressive with just that minor crease bottom right.  The inside of the gatefold is about as good as it gets with no marking etc.  A superb example that would be hard to better.
The original inner sleeves have also been preserved very well with just 3/4 small faint marks and a little creasing.  Only one of them has a very small split on the bottom edge.

The records have been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
