The Beatles : With The Beatles 1N/ 1N 1st Mono Press 1963 w/Jobete Credit

This very collectable first pressing with the incorrect Jobete credit for 'Money' on S2 plays with sensational audio on both sides with NO interference!  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is stunning and the worst I can say is that 'Please Mister Postman' has a little distortion but then it is the final track on S1.  However, as detailed below it still plays with very clear audio and has so much les distortion than usual and the final track on S2 'Money' plays with incredible sonic quality!  There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static across the entire album and it easily qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE pressing.  It may well be the finest version of this classic album that I have ever listened to.  It is very impressive visually with only a couple of hairlines on S1 that are a little obvious and it clearly has not been played very much judging by the audio and the minimal spindle wear.  It has been so well looked after over the last near 60 years!

The E.J. Day cover has been so well preserved and has only minimal wear on the bottom edge flipback on the back cover.  If not for that I would be tempted to grade as Ex++ at the very least as it really is in lovely condition and for once very clean.  The original Emitex inner is in also in superb condition with hardly any wear.  This is a cover/vinyl that has not been removed from the cupboard very many times!

As this is a first press it has a 1N/1N matrix and as stated the Jobete credit on S2.  It also has the incorrect 'Gotta' credit on S2 but interestingly it has the correct 'Got A' on the cover.  This is no mix and match as according to thebeatlescollection site a small number were made for this first pressing.  Further proof that this is a 1963 cover is that it has the earliest style flipback cover as used on the earliest Please Please Me covers. i.e. the 'flips' are not rounded at each end.  It also has a large Mono on the front.  Another point of interest is that it has a MT tax code on the S1 label even though it was supposedly discontinued at the end of June '63 and this album was released in Nov '63.  Obviously a few slipped through.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and the first thing you notice is just how clean it is.  It still has a very strong glossy sheen and has no scratches.  S1 does have a couple of longish hairlines but they are still faint and have no impact on the audio.  Aside from that it is lovely condition with only a handful of barely visible sleeve removal hairlines.  S2 is even more impressive with only a small number of very faint hairlines and a couple of minor marks on track three that again have zero affect on the audio.  The run out grooves are incredibly clean and the yellow / black Parlophone labels are unmarked and have only minimal spindle wear.  The MT tax stamp can easily be seen on the S1 label.

Play grading

Can you believe the run in on S1 has no static etc and then 'It Won't Be Long' plays with genuine precision from the first note to the last.  The clarity is stunning and there is no interference not even a solitary dust tick.  Great power and depth and no distortion - a perfect fade out also.  A superb Mint start to this classic album.

With complete silence in the dead wax 'All I've Got To Do' then plays to the same standard with no intrusion.  There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static and the sonic quality is as per 1963!  Another Mint track.

'All My Loving' plays with outstanding power and definition throughout with nothing to detract from the audio.  Again.  There are no negatives and Mint is well deserved.

'Don't Bother Me' shows once more just how well this vinyl has been preserved and plays with sensational quality and no interference.  It really is the clarity and depth of the audio that impress on so many levels.  Clearly not overplayed.  Mint

The harmonica intro on 'Little Child' is 'as new' and that applies to the rest of the track!  On a first / early pressing this track often plays with some inner groove distortion but not here, the clarity is STUNNING and Mint is again a fair assessment of the audio.

'Till There Was You' plays so clearly with no sign of any background.  A relatively quiet number and yet the clarity is certainly comparable to how it would have sounded when first pressed no exaggeration.  The brief acoustic instrumental is faultless and the final vocal is just as impressive.  Mint

As I often say I am playing this mono record on my stereo set up so you would expect some distortion on the final track and yet 'Please Mister Postman' plays very clearly and has to be one of the strongest versions I have ever heard on a genuine first press.  There is only very minimal inner groove distortion on the vocal but in no way is it intrusive.  Like I say you're expecting the distortion so it's a very pleasant surprise when you find how little there is here!  Perhaps I should not downgrade as a result but I will say Ex+ just to be a little cautious.  A stunning side of music!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Harrison's guitar on the 'Roll Over Beethoven' intro could not play any better and his vocal is just as 'clean'.  Not ticks, clicks etc each note is crystal clear and there is no distortion on the top end.  Stunning power and depth...again.  Yet another Mint track no need for a minus here!  Probably the most 'complete' version I have ever heard.

'Hold Me Tight' plays to the same high end standard with no interference.  Running out of superlatives now!  Mint

I often find 'You Really Got A Hold On Me' has static distortion on the piano notes but that is not the case here.  The rest of the track is very impressive also (!) with no intrusion.  Mint

Both 'I Wanna Be Your Man' and 'Devil In Her Heart'  play with great power and resonance from start to finish with no interference.  Truly I cannot believe what I am hearing on this album!  So far there has not been one tick, click or pop and no static either!  You will not be surprised to hear these two grade as Mint

It's worth noting that penultimate tracks are also often affected by distortion and yet this version of 'Not A Second Time' plays with sublime clarity and depth and... no interference.  If there is any distortion it is infinitesimal!  i.e. so so minimal and totally non-intrusive.  Mint- is very much deserved here.

I've played 'Money' twice now and the lack of distortion is a real eye-opener!  So often ruined by distortion this is without doubt the cleanest version I have heard and you can turn it up to loud without having to turn it down immediately!  From the piano intro the fade out it plays with phenomenal power and depth and of course no intrusion.  You know what I'm going to grade it as Mint- such is the sonic quality on offer here.  WHAT. A. VERSION.  A fantastic finish to an incredible album.

In summary this first pressing plays to a standard you so rarely find today.  One thing I haven't mentioned is that there is also complete silence between every track and as you can see from my grading the clarity is just exceptional throughout.  I honestly do not think I have found a genuine first press as STUNNING as this as there is just nothing that detracts from the quality of the audio.  This is a true FINAL UPGRADE classic with not one tick, click or pops and no irritating background static either.  In my opinion it plays as cleanly as it would have done when first released I can pay it no higher compliment.  With a superb cover I am sure this will command a lot of interest.  The winning bidder will not be disappointed!

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The E.J. Day cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear and it has retained its original shape and structure perfectly with no bends etc.  The edges have no rubbing and the thin pinched spine is stunning and remains 100% legible of course.  One thing that stands out is just how impressive all the corners are as they have barely any wear and the opening edge looks untouched also.  The front cover is in lovely condition - it is unmarked and has no laminate damage / lifting and only a handful of minor laminate creases on the bottom edge plus one very small corner crease top left.  If you look closely you can tell the cover wasn't 'cut' with 100% precision as everything is all slightly angled to the right, I don't know how rare that is.  The back cover is so clean when you consider it isn't laminated and has only very minimal light marking / spotting and the flipbacks remain firmly attached to the cover with barely any of the marking / staining on the edges that you so often find.  There is just one very small area of damage on the bottom edge flipback near the right corner.  A superb example overall.

The original poly-lined Emitex inner is in great condition with no side splits or tears, only the lightest of fading around the edges i.e. barely any and hardly any creasing either.
