This is the original 1969 UK Atco stereo press, with the tan & blue Atco label and the earliest A//1 B//1 matrices and 1-1-8 1-1-11 stampers of the first presses.

The third album by Iron Butterfly was recorded during touring in late 1968 at Gold Star Studios, L.A. & the Hit Factory, New York and was released in April 1969. The band had formed in San Diego in 1966 and relocated to Los Angeles in 1967, being signed by Atlantic on Atco for their first album 'Heavy' released in Jan 1968. Their second album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was recorded in the summer of 1968 and became an instant hit, going gold in the USA. They went on tour with Jefferson Airplane later that year and recorded their third album 'Ball' between gigs in late 1968, which was released in the UK in April 1969. The album reached no.3 in the US and also went gold, but Erik Braun was unhappy with the bands new sound and at the end of 1969 finally quit. The band continued into 1970 with a fourth album Metamorphosis, but whilst touring Europe in 1971 Doug Ingle also quit and soon after the band collapsed.
The album has never been re-issued on vinyl....

The MacNeill Press Ltd matt gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear and very light storage rubbing on the outer cover. The inner cover has some very light rubbing & discolouration the inner cover. The spine is intact and fully readable and the plain company inner is intact & in VG+ condition.   The record is in visually EX+ condition, with only a couple of faint sleeve removal hairlines and one or two light needle scuffs that do not affect play, visible on each side. The labels are in EX+ condition, clean & bright with evidence of one or two very faint spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX+, still clear & precise throughout with no loud hiss, pops or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some brief low background noise during the run in grooves.
Overall, a really great, loud & clear listen.

The matrix nos. are; 22801, A//1 stamper 1-1-8, B//1 stamper 1-1-11. This is one of the early copies of the 1st pressing of the original 1969 UK stereo issue of this album!
