DESCRIPTION, edited, for the most part, from Wikipedia: Unfinished Music No. 2: Life With The Lions is the second of three experimental albums of avant-garde music by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, released in May 1969 on Zapple Records, a sub label of Apple. It was a successor to 1968's highly controversial Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins, and was followed by the Wedding Album. The album, whose title is a play on words of the BBC Radio show Life With The Lyons, was recorded at Queen Charlotte's Hospital in London and live at Cambridge University, in November 1968 and March 1969, respectively. The Cambridge performance, to which Ono had been invited and to which she brought Lennon, was Lennon and Ono's second as a couple (their first was at/on The Rolling Stones’ Rock And Roll Circus). The album was remastered in 1997. A few of the tracks that ended up on the album were released on a 5-track mono 8" square flexi record that was included with copies of the American magazine Aspen (I believe this to be the source of the download bonus tracks). SIDE BAR: As for Aspen magazine, based in New York City, they are quite collectable, existing from 65-71 and publishing on an irregular schedule (only 10 issues were published). Each issue came in a customized box or folder filled with materials in a variety of formats, including booklets, "flexidisc" phonograph recordings, posters, postcards and reels of super-8 movie film. Issue #3 was designed by Andy Warhol and David Dalton. Published in December of 1966, it featured cover graphics based on the Fab laundry detergent box and included a flexi-disc by John Cale amongst its enclosures. John and Yoko’s flexi-disc appeared in issue #7 sometime in 1969.
THIS ITEM IS NEW AND UNPLAYED. Used items will include condition details for the cover, disc, inserts, etc.
NOTE TO POTENTIAL BUYERS: If the jacket or disc (unless sealed) is punched, marked, or cut in any manner, denoting a promotional/review copy, I will state that as part of the item description. Also if an issue is a "music club" edition, that will be noted in the item description. (The below information was last updated 10/08/22)
If you have any questions or if you have additional information, especially corrections, to the description, please e-mail me. I particularly enjoy when an artist, band member, or someone who has personal background knowledge of a particular album/artist and offers their insight/information of that recording, which I will include with the description for future listings of that release. As a collector of many years, part of the hobby side for me is to learn about the background of the artists and music that I collect. Hopefully, sharing some of this information in my descriptions will help educate and enhance your listening experience.
All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers with inside packing.
