Egg : The Civil Surface A-1U / B-1U 1st Press 1974
This first pressing plays to a very high standard with only very minimal interference.  A couple of light clicks and some light ticks that's about it.  It plays with great clarity in the main and of course the majority of the album plays very quietly so there is no hiding place!  The vinyl is visually very impressive and has only minimal spindle wear.
The cover has been preserved very well and remains in excellent condition and as can be seen it still has the original Caroline Records sticker in the top right corner.  The original inner is also in excellent condition.

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a superb glossy sheen with scratches.  Under a bright light I can only see a few faint hairlines and a handful of minor specks.  The run out grooves are very clean and the labels are unmarked and have only minimal spindle wear.
Play grading
The metronomic intro on 'Germ Patrol' plays with incredible clarity and this sound quality is kept up as it progresses.  There is just one 'sound' that could be considered a click but it is quiet and there is no other intrusion on the audio.  A handful of minor static ticks and a some light static here and there during the next metronomic section but nothing that impacts on the audio.  The entire 8+ minutes plays very clearly and I will grade as Ex+ overall but it has to be said that the majority is stronger than that.
'Wind Quartet 1' for the vast majority plays with great clarity and warmth.  There is only a brief moment of static in the middle section and a couple of other minor ticks but there is nothing that you would say detracts from the overall sound.  Again I think Ex+ is fair.
The percussive intro on 'Enneagram' is 'as new' and from then on plays with superb audio.  There are a few light ticks and some light static for a couple of brief moments but overall the clarity is very impressive.  There are no clicks or pops and the depth of the audio is also very strong.  The end percussive sequence is faultless.  Ex+

The opening section on 'Prelude' plays with exceptional clarity and the first 'vocal' passage is equally as good.  A couple of light ticks just after and some light static during the next section plus one click due to a tiny 'speck' of dust that refuses to move!  Maybe the winning bidder will have more luck.  The remainder plays very clearly and this time I will grade as Ex but again the majority is better than that.
'Wring Out The Ground (Loosely Now)' plays with stunning quality throughout with barely any intrusion.  There are a couple of static ticks and some minor static during one of the early instrumentals but the sonic quality really is superb and especially during the long solo section from Hillage.  Ex+ at the very least.
Another instrumental in 'Nearch' and it could hardly play any better.  A small number of dust ticks near the start that's about it.  The long silent passages at the end have only only minimal background and let's face it 'silence' isn't music anyway!  The track itself plays so clearly and I think Near Mint is deserved.
'Wind Quartet 2' ends the album with sublime clarity from start to finish.  A very small number of background ticks but the music is very clean and there is no underlying static.  A Near Mint version.
In summary this very first pressing plays to an excellent standard with only minimal interference.  The clarity is very impressive for an LP with so many quiet sections and there are only a couple of clicks, some very light ticks and barely any static.  An acquired taste you could say but if you're after one that plays with very clear audio for the vast majority then you will not be disappointed with this one!
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear and the edges have only a little rubbing towards the right hand corners.  The spine is very clean and remains 100% legible and all corners have only the bare minimum of wear.  The opening edge looks untouched and is pristine.  The front cover is in great shape and has just one small crease next to the top edge and a small corner crease bottom left.  The back cover has no marking and just one minor crease bottom right that you only notice when you hold it at a certain angle.  Considering it isn't laminated this near 50 year old cover has been very well preserved and remains in superb condition!
The original plain white die-cut inner has no side splits just a couple of minor tears on the top edge.  There is hardly any marking or creasing.
Play tested on my Rega P2 Turntable / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers
This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
