Legendary Solo Acoustic Show On Double LP!
Part Of Neil's "Official Bootleg Series"!
Mixed From The Original 1/4-Inch Tapes By Young & Niko Bolas!
Mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering!

On December 4th, 1970 Neil Young played two legendary solo acoustic shows at New York's Carnegie Hall. The 23 songs in this set have been mixed from the original ¼-inch tapes by Young and Niko Bolas. This is the early show which has never been bootlegged or circulated, and is the first release in Neil's new "Official Bootleg Series".

Carnegie Hall 1970 offers the first public release of multi-track recordings from that first night, finding Young in rare form and delivering a diverse set list that included material from his records up to that point, as well as tunes that hadn't been released yet. Songs that were raging and blusterous on record, like 'Cinnamon Girl,' 'Southern Man,' and 'Cowgirl in the Sand,' are mysterious and tender in their solo renditions, peeling away the distortion and guitar heroics to expose the lingering melancholy and aching beauty that so often lie at the core of Young's songwriting. Already, folksy acoustic songs like 'Tell Me Why,' and the piano-based 'Birds' take on an even more marked intimacy on Carnegie Hall 1970. Young's legendarily quaky voice conveys the loneliness, hope, loss, and appreciation of his lyrics with a profound impact when he stands alone with a single instrument....Any Young completist will need Carnegie Hall 1970, but it's a special performance that can be appreciated by more casual listeners as well. Alone at the microphone, the purity, simplicity, and one-of-a-kind magic of some of Neil Young's best songs come into view in a way that's undeniable. -Fred Thomas, AllMusic.com, 4/5 stars Warm, engaging, and magnetically solicitous, the Carnegie Hall show is a fascinating pivot point, showcasing Young at his most engaging and vulnerable, nailing one door shut and prying open another: It's a last look back at the old folkie days and a tentative first reckoning with the wooly neurosis of a new decade. -Elizabeth Nelson, Pitchfork Features Double LP Neil Young Archives Official Bootleg Series, Disc 01 Recorded at Carnegie Hall, NYC, December 4, 1970 From the original Non-Dolby Scotch 1 inch to ATR 1/4 inch tape Mixed & edited at Capitol Studio C from October 26-28, 2020, by The Volume Dealers (Neil Young & Niko Bolas), assisted by Chandler Harrod Final editing for both on election day November 3, 2020, by The Volume Dealers, assisted by Chandler Harrod Mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering Made in USA Musicians Neil Youngguitar, harmonica, piano, vocals Selections Side 1: Down By The River Cinnamon Girl I Am A Child Expecting To Fly The Loner Wonderin' Side 2: Helpless Southern Man Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing Sugar Mountain Side 3: On The Way Home Tell Me Why Only Love Can Break Your Heart Old Man After The Gold Rush Flying On The Ground Is Wrong Side 4: Cowgirl In The Sand Don't Let It Bring You Down Birds Bad Fog Of Loneliness Ohio See The Sky About To Rain Dance Dance Dance
