The Jimi Hendrix Experience Axis : Bold As Love A1 / B1 1st Mono Press + Original Lyric Insert

This first mono pressing on the Track Record label is STUNNING!  As always I have played every track in full and I can safely say it would be very difficult to find a better one!  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is incredible and there are no clicks or pops and hardly any distortion.  There are so many highlights but 'Little Wing', 'One Rainy Wish' and 'Bold As Love' really do stand out as absolute classics.  They play 'as new' no word of a lie and the latter especially is just mind-blowing!  The power and depth here is on another level.

The vinyl is visually very strong with only some faint hairlines and the iconic cover is very impressive with only minor wear.  The original lyric insert is STUNNING with only one crease line that you say is a little obvious but still faint!  The original inner has also been preserved very well and has clearly not been outside of the cover that many times.  This is a STUNNING complete 'package'!

Visual description
The vinyl is in great condition and still has a very impressive glossy sheen and no scratches.  I can only see some faint hairlines when I hold the vinyl at a certain angle under a bright light and there is also one faint hairline type mark on the final track on S1 which has no affect on the audio.  There is no 'bag rash' or groove wear and the run out grooves are very clean also.  The iconic Track Record labels are unmarked with not very much spindle wear.
Play grading

'EXP' has a couple of mega light light dust ticks on the 'intro' and then the interview plays with stunning clarity - there is no background - and then the 'feedback' section plays with no interference.  A Mint- start.

'Up From The Skies' plays with incredible clarity and depth from the very first note and I am pleased to say this standard is kept up as you progress further into the track.  The vocals are so clean and the accompanying music has no intrusion either with not so much as a dust tick.  I am confident in grading this as Mint as it just could not play any better.

The 'heavy' intro on 'Spanish Castle Magic' is perfect, there is no interference or distortion, and Hendrix's opening vocal section is just as strong.  From then on it plays with exceptional power and depth and the clarity of sound is also so impressive for such a 'busy' track.  Every note is so clean and precise and again there is no sign of any distortion.  This record cannot have been played very much because you don't get sonic quality like this from one that has been heavily played!  The instrumental sections are just STUNNING, well all the sections are!  The fade is perfect also.  Mint

There is one staticy click sound in the dead wax but then the intro on 'Wait Until Tomorrow' is nigh on perfect with just one barely audible tick.  The opening verse and chorus plays to perfection and it continues to play with imperious quality with no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  This is Mint- at the very least and again the fade out has no background.

'Ain't No Telling' plays with tremendous power and definition with... no interference.  The sonic quality is superb and Mint is richly deserved.  So far I cannot believe how well this first press is playing!

The intro on the classic 'Little Wing' is faultless and all you can hear is Hendrix's sublime work, there is no background.  The glockenspiel is 'as new' also!  The two verses both play with STUNNING precision and what strikes you is the clarity and depth on offer here.  Honestly the sonic quality is just incredible - it's like you've been transported back to '67 / '68!  Each and every note is 'as new' and Mint is no exaggeration.  What. A. Version!

The intro on 'If Six Was Nine' has no intrusion and the opening vocal has just one very minor and quiet static sound.  From then on it plays with great clarity and power and the brief silent section is exactly that, silent.  The following 'spoken' vocal has no interference and the mid instrumental plays so clearly with this being the final track on the side.  There is no 'muddiness' to the sound and no inner groove distortion - very impressive when you consider this mono record is being played through a stereo set up.  The backing from Redding and Mitchell is so strong and the remaining sections plays with real quality.  Perhaps a little inner groove distortion towards the end but nothing intrusive and you can still turn it up to 'loud' without having to turn it down immediately!  I will grade as Near Mint just to play it safe but wow what a side of music!  It doesn't get much better than this!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'You've Got Me Floating' plays with great power and depth from the word go and this quality does not let up.  A powerful and 'busy' track and yet the audio does not suffer in any way.  It sounds as clear and precise as it would have done when first released and Mint is an easy grade to give.

The intro on 'Castles Made Of Sand' is so clean with only a couple of insignificant dust ticks and the opening vocal from Hendrix is perfect.  It continues to play with superb audio and I only heard a handful of very quiet ticks during the quieter moments.  The clarity is so impressive but I will grade as Near Mint but it really is so so close to Mint-

The intro on 'She's So Fine' could not play any better and Redding's opening vocal is on a par with that.  It proceeds in the same way with no interference - no 'muddiness' or distortion either.  Great work from Hendrix as per usual and it grades as Mint

Turn the lights off with the next one, it needs to be the music alone with this one!  The psychedelic intro on the classic 'One Rainy Wish' is STUNNING - the audio is so rich and deep and the opening vocal is just as strong.  The first 'rockier' chorus is breath-taking as is the following instrumental section.  On this track you can see where he was heading with Electric Ladyland and this has to be the most 'complete' version of this track that I have ever heard.  Every section is 'as new' and the sonic quality is just out of this world!  Nowhere is that more obvious than during the end instrumental.  A sublime Mint version, no need for a minus here.  Another super clean fade out also.

The percussive intro on 'Little Miss Lover' has no background and the same applies to the rest of the track.  Another powerful number and yet no distortion, no interference and... Mint

The classic finale 'Bold As Love' delivers on so many levels!  The first verse and chorus play with zero interference and next verse more than keeps up the quality.  The vocals are so strong and clear as is the accompanying music also.  The iconic solo is STUNNING and having turned it up to max I can guarantee there is no distortion whatsoever.  The playback is FANTASTIC and the phasing has never played better and the end sequence in particular is exceptional.  The long fade out for once has no background and I cannot compliment this version highly enough.  This is exactly why the first pressing is so collectable, the audio is spectacular!  It is Mint in every sense of the word!

In summary this first mono pressing plays with incredible quality and no interference basically.  Not bad for a vinyl fast approaching 56 years old!  There are a small number of insignificant ticks and just a minimal (very minimal) amount of inner groove distortion at the end of S1 but there are no clicks or pops and almost zero static.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is sensational, it could hardly play better.  This is a record that has been so well preserved down the years and that is so obvious on a number of tracks.  I mean 'Bold As Love' is just awesome!  Hate using that word but I can forgiven here!  The depth and resonance of the audio on both sides is exceptional and I am confident the winning bidder will be just as impressed as I am.  In a nutshell the clarity is stunning and there is no intrusive background on either side.

The Gatefold, Lyric Insert & Inner Sleeve

This laminated E.J. Day cover is in great condition with only minimal wear and has retained its original shape and structure so has not been handled very much.  The edges have barely any rubbing and only the top corners as you look at the album have only a minor amount of wear.  The top opening edge has just a little handling wear and the wide spine has no wear apart from a minor amount of rubbing on the corners.  The front cover is stunning with only 3/4 faint creases next to the left edge and a couple on near the right edge.  The back cover is very clean also with only a couple of minor indents that I almost missed and the minor wear on the bottom corners.  The inside of the gatefold is immaculate and the flipbacks are still firmly attached to the cover with no marking / staining on the edges.  A fine example overall and a lot 'cleaner' than so many you see today.

The original orange lyric insert is quite possibly the finest I have ever seen and has no rips, tears or marking and just one faint crease on the right panel.

The original poly-lined inner is in superb condition with no side splits or tears and hardly any age related fading around the edges.
