This record is from Joan Armatrading, the Kittitian-English singer-songwriter and guitarist. A three-time Grammy Award nominee, Armatrading has also been nominated twice for BRIT awards as Best Female Artist. She received an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contemporary Song Collection in 1996. In a recording career spanning nearly 50 years, Armatrading has released 20 studio albums, as well as several live albums and compilations.

 

Joan Armatrading is Armatrading’s third studio album, released in 1976 by A&M Records. It was her first album to be recorded entirely in London, as her first two albums being partially recorded in France and Wales in addition to London. Released in 1976, the album peaked at number 12 in the UK and was certified Gold. It also included one of Armatrading's best-selling singles, Love and Affection. The album's producer, Glyn Johns, later said it was the best album he had ever been associated with.
