Ryo Fukui’s posthumous work ~ “A Letter From Slowboat”
Ryo Fukui, a famous pianist from Hokkaido, Japan, sadly passed away in 2016. His two early works “Scenery” and “Mellow Dream” were highly acclaimed, and his name is now known to jazz listeners around the world. “A Letter From Slowboat” was released in 2015 for the first time in 16 years. Leader album produced.
The recording was done at their home live house, Slow Boat, with two promising young artists whose abilities are recognized by Fukui. The lyricism in “Sonora,” the poetry in “Stella By Starlight,” and the dynamism in “Speak Low.” The touch is more powerful, the emotion is deeper, and the scent is richer.
"Today is better than yesterday, and tomorrow is better than today." Fukui has devoted himself to the piano for 40 years with this desire in mind. The culmination of those 40 years is vividly recorded here. Even excluding the weight of being his posthumous work, it is a pure masterpiece.
