JOHN LENNON - IMAGINE - Vinyl LP - Apple - 1972 - VG - FREE POSTAGE (1269)

This album is from the English singer, song writer John Lennon. Lennon gained worldwide fame as the founder, co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the Beatles. Born in Liverpool, Lennon became involved in the skiffle craze as a teenager. In 1956, he formed the Quarrymen, which evolved into the Beatles in 1960. Sometimes called "the smart Beatle", Lennon initially was the group's de facto leader, a role he gradually seemed to cede to McCartney. Through his songwriting in the Beatles, he embraced myriad musical influences, initially writing and co-writing rock and pop-oriented hit songs in the band's early years, then later incorporating experimental elements into his compositions in the latter half of the Beatles' career as his songs became known for their increasing innovation. As a performer, writer or co-writer, Lennon had 25 number-one singles in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Imagine is his second solo studio album, released on 9 September 1971 by Apple Records. Co-produced by Lennon, his wife Yoko Ono and Phil Spector. the album's elaborate sound contrasts the basic, small-group arrangements of his first album, while the opening title track is widely considered to be his signature song. Lennon recorded the album from early to mid-1971 with supporting musicians that included his ex-Beatles bandmate George Harrison, keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, bassist Klaus Voorman and drummers Alan White and Jim Keltner. Its lyrics reflect peace, love, politics, Lennon's experience with primal scream therapy, and, following a period of high personal tensions, an attack on his former writing partner Paul McCartney in How Do You Sleep? Extensive footage from the sessions was recorded for a scrapped documentary. Imagine was a critical and commercial success, peaking at number one in both the UK and the US. Along with John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, it is considered one of Lennon's finest solo albums.
