Oscar Peterson has thoroughly assimilated not just every piano style that preceded him but every ensemble idiom as well: swinging big bands, gospel, European classical, and, of course, the blues. Having mastered all of this, Peterson found the standard piano trio the perfect vehicle for exploring all of these types of music.  In this classic LP, the crowning achievement in his greatest year, Peterson doesn't just explore these styles - he conquers them.

One of the first Broadway musical scores to be overtly jazz-influenced was Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, a tale of rival street gangs in the inner city. In 1962, pianist Oscar Peterson put his light-swing signature on the already popular score, making it, in the words of one critic, "a delight to hear again" and earning him a Grammy nomination.

"...these are all truly classic Verve titles that you simply don't want to miss...most importantly, the sound of these reissues is nothing short of astounding. Particularly the early Billie and Ella mono records are incredible treasures of sonic beauty. I'd definitely ask Santa for the whole set, or, if you want to cherry pick, the most classic titles. Whatever you decide, you owe yourself at least a half dozen!" Winner of a 2012 Positive Feedback Online Writers' Choice Award - Danny Kaey, Positive Feedback Online, November/December 2011

Here is one of the classic pairings in jazz. There are no arrangements to speak of--an 8 bar intro is fancy stuff here--the better to let Ben Webster, he of the breathy, cavernous sound, blow a program of timeless songs. Pianist Oscar Peterson is the perfect foil. His effortless swing setting up the tenor saxophonist just the way he liked it. A master class in saxophone ballads.

Ben Webster had long before passed through the ranks of imitator, then pupil and finally master. His "college attendance," as one might put it, in the Duke Ellington Orchestra gave him a sureness of expression in his great showpieces and he also learned to hold his own against such musical giants as Paul Gonsalves and Jimmy Hamilton.

"Hawk" was able to thoroughly enjoy his fame in numerous Jazz At The Philharmonic concerts given all over the world, where, of course, he had to assert himself against many other saxophone players. Two such JATP ensembles are to be found on the Confrères LP. The relaxed atmosphere is particularly noticeable in the title "Sunday" in which Roy Eldridge comes into the limelight with a brilliant solo. And just listen to George Buvivier's marvelous bass playing (in "Nabab!") where he certainly has no reason to hide in the shadow thrown by Ray Brown. Coleman Hawkins' voluminous, supple sound which had a great influence on the styles of musicians ranging from Dexter Gordon and Sonny Rollins up to Joe Lovano, is best heard after Roy's solo in "Honey Flower."

TWO ACOUS TECH 45 SPEED 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION OUT OF PRINT TREMENDOUSLY RARE NUMBERED SETS

ELLA FITZGERALD & OSCAR PETERSON – ELLA & OSCAR - 45 RPM SEALED 2 LP SET LIMITED EDITION NUMBERED OF THE 1000 PIECES EVER PRESSED.

AND - COUNT BASIE MEETS OSCAR PETERSON - LIMITED TO 1000 PIECES TOTALLY PRESSED - OUT OF PRINT & HAS WAS LIMITED EDITION NUMBERED TO VERIFY THE 1000 PIECE AUDIOPHILE 45 SPEED PRESSING PRESSING

Here's How it was done:

Using only the original analog master tapes, the renowned team of Steve Hoffman & Kevin Gray remastered and cut all of the titles at AcousTech Mastering, which features a pure Class-A disc-cutting system. AcousTech is located at Record Technology, Inc. the plant where the vinyl was pressed. It is a tremendous sonic advantage to have the pressing plant plating department & mastering room in the same facility as Steve & Kevin could cut a lacquer and plated immediately. This prevents the degradation of the grooves in a lacquer which is very fragile to quick deterioration.

And of course cutting at 45 speed is the audiophile choice for the highes quality. A 45-RPM record is sonically superior to a 33 1/3 variety because of a 35 percent reduction of groove curvature compared to a 33 1/3 cut.. It means that while you can't fit as much music into a 45, the undukations of the groove that your cartridge has to track are stretched over a longer distance. For these reissues, the music was displaced onto four sides, meaning each side contains about 10 minutes of music.

This is the ultimate reissues. The only way you'll get closer to this classic music is to listen to the master tapes or have been in the studio with the artist originally during the actual session.

Sold Out Forever Last COPIES.

ELLA FITZGERALD & OSCAR PETERSON - For this Pablo set, Ella Fitzgerald is heard on half of the program in duets with pianist Oscar Peterson and for the remainder in trios with Peterson and bassist Ray Brown. In general the performances are memorable (particularly "How Long Has This Been Going On," "More than You Know," "Midnight Sun" and "April in Paris") with the emphasis on ballads. Although her voice had slipped a little by this time, the results are still rewarding and swinging.

Track Listings 1. Mean To Me 2. How Long Has This Been Going on? 3. When Your Lover Has Gone 4. More Than You Ever Know 5. There's A Lull In My Life 6. Midnight Sun 7. Midnight Sun 8. Street Of Dreams 9. April In Paris

COUNT BASIE MEETS OSCAR PETERSON - It could be argued that no two pianists could be more unalike than Count Basie, the master of understatement, and Oscar Peterson, the avatar of speed, power and embellishment. The contrast in their approaches is part of what made their collaborations riveting. But the fact is that Basie, who held great power in reserve, could let it rip (and stride) when the mood struck him. And Peterson is capable of judiciously applying all that horsepower to achieve the most delicate effects. Both kinds of role reversals occur here. As the album title indicates, the great common denominator between the two is the observance and interpretation of time, not only in the sense of overall swing but of placement of notes and phrases. Their unaccompanied duet in the first choruses of "Rent Party" provides an emphatic demonstration.

Track Listings 1. I'm Confessin' (That I Love You) 2. Soft Winds 3. Rent Party 4. Indiana 5. Hey, Raymond 6. After You've Gone 7. That's The One

Exclusively For My Friends - The Lost Tapes 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION - Tears of sorrow mingled with tears of joy as Oscar Peterson fans realized that the keyboard genius, who had just recovered his health, was still capable of amazing them all, although he had obviously forfeited some of his past vitality. This may well have induced MPS - the label with whom Oscar Peterson himself claimed to have made his best recordings - to search their archives for lost tapes from Peterson's heydey. A number of previously unreleased recordings were discovered, which had been taped "exclusively for my friends" in the private studio in Villingen, 1965-1968.
The electric atmosphere of these live sessions before a mere handful of listeners proves once again just how at home the musicians felt in the Black Forest villa - as is borne out by the fact that Peterson's usual trio formation alternated with his stand-in musicians of Sam Jones on the bass and Bobby Durham on the drums.
And now, exclusively for all jazz fans, these amazing tracks are available for the first time on an LP filled with glorious sound. Whether longtime collector or jazz newcomer, one thing is certain: This album belongs in every collection!
