Over two-and-a-half decades, Eyehategod has helped define the NOLA sound: down-tuned, blues-inflected guitars awash in furious distortion, underpinning the tormented screams of Mike IX Williams over a thundering rhythm section. They've been called doomcore, sludge and stoner rock, survived line-up shuffles, label hassles and a short-lived split. And after years of creating some of the most corrosive, vile music known to man, Eyehategod formed by Jimmy Bower (Down, Superjoint Ritual, Crowbar), still hasn't lost the piss and vinegar that fueled them back in '88.
1993's Take As Needed For Pain is the follow-up to Eyehategod's raw debut In the Name of Suffering and predecessor to the band's masterful 1996 album Dopesick. Featuring much more distinguished production than that of their primitive sounding debut, the savage 12-song set is the Louisiana volume dealers' first to showcase their southern blues-rock and Black Sabbath influences and is a favorite of the band.
