playing slow, mellow grooves that keeps on building, with Hooker supplying some
lightningsharp guitar work, that's so raw you'll see sparks flying.
Amazing stuff! Sometimes they hit a groove that's so tight it's hypnotic.

Keith Richards once said; "If you want heavy metal, talk to John Lee Hooker, listen
to that motherf###er play. That's heavy metal. That's armour!".

And that's a quote that really sticks to this album.

JOHN LEE HOOKER NEVER GET OUT OF THESE BLUES ALIVE 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION IMPORT LP

180 Gram Vinyl! Includes Guest Artists Van Morrison, Steve Miller, Elvin Bishop & Charlie Musselwhite!

Singer-guitarist John Lee Hooker (1917-2001) was one of the most successful blues artists of the second half of the 20th century, yet his hypnotic brand of blues was in many ways a throwback to earlier times, before rules of rhyme, meter, and chord structure became standardized. The Clarksdale, Mississippi-born musician burst on the national scene with his first record, "Boogie Chillen," which topped Billboard's Most-Played Juke Box Race Record chart in 1949. His unaccompanied performance, delivered in a declarative baritone over an unchanging one-chord guitar pattern and the steady stomp of his foot on a wooden board, was not only a bold announcement of youthful independence but marked the arrival of a unique musical stylist. His roots were the North Mississippi hill country, yet through the use of heavily amplified guitar, the Detroit-based bluesman was able to create the music relevant to mass audiences, both rural and urban, and later in his career, white as well as black.

The unparalleled John Lee Hooker recorded Never Get Out Of These Blues Alive within two days in 1971, working together with young Blues stars Van Morrison and Steve Miller, among others. John takes center stage delivering the hard-edged Blues he's known for, whilst giving his fellow musicians enough space to jam along. Stellar performances by Charlie Musselwhite on blues harp and Miller & Elvin Bishop on guitar top off the album. The title track is simply what Blues is all about: mournful, depressed and loose - epic stuff. Noteworthy is Hooker's laidback rendition of Van Morrison's "T.B. Sheets", of which the original is found on Morrison's debut album Blowin' Your Mind.

Limited edition 180-gram LP

50th anniversary edition of Hooker's iconic 1963 masterpiece

John Lee Hooker was absolutely one of the most prolific and rhythmic pioneers of the blues scene for most of his life. Recording his first 78's in the 1940s and rapidly becoming one of the most in demand bluesmen of his time, Hooker was truly an American legend of our modern times.

With hundreds of songs and an untold amount of recordings and live performances throughout his lifetime, John Lee was also one of the most revered and interpreted songwriters. Major recording acts like Canned Heat, Johnny Winter, Van Morrison, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, George Thorogood were all champions of this sorely missed icon.

Fifty years ago, ATCO Records released one of the most important albums of his career with Don't Turn Me From Your Door - John Lee Hooker Sings His Blues. The dozen gems that make up this rural blues event would go on to become some of his most famous tunes including the title track which was covered by numerous rock and blues artists over the years like Savoy Brown and the terrific blues wailing of "Drifting Blues," the rockin' "Real Real Gone" and of course another brilliant standard with "My Baby Don't Love Me."

The award winning giant of the blues continues with even more hard rockin' blues numbers like "Guitar Lovin' Man," "Wobbling Baby" and fan favorite "Stuttering Blues." From Friday Music, mastering by Joe Reagoso.

Side 1 Stuttering Blues Wobbling Baby You Lost A Good Man Love My Baby Misbelieving Baby Drifting Blues

JOHN LEE HOOKER & CANNED HEAT HOOKER 'N HEAT 180 GRAM 2 LP SET BY FRIDAY MUSIC - THESE FRIDAY MUSIC TITLES ARE BRAND NEW BUT  DO NOT COME TRADITIONALLY SEALED WITH TIGHT PLASTIC WRAP. THEY COME WITH A PLASTIC OPEN PROTECTIVE WRAP.

The iconic Canned Heat are an American blues and rock music treasure. Their importance and ever growing legion of worldwide fans is second to none. Their music has been an inspiration to many as their definitive catalog of albums and hit singles have stood the test of time.

Formed by fellow blues enthusiasts and record collectors Bob “The Bear” Hite Jr. and Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson, they were one of the first rock bands to successfully translate the country blues of icons like Robert Johnson, Elmore James, John Lee Hooker and others to a whole new audience. While maintaining a rock, country blues and boogie groove, Canned Heat’s sound became their trademark to the world.

Soon recruiting members like Larry Taylor on the bass, Henry Vestine on guitar and Fito de la Parra on drums, Canned Heat became the toast of the hippie generation in the sixties culminating with their headline appearance at the Woodstock festival in August 1969. Their music not only rocked, but it also foretold future concerns about the environment, the human condition, the economy, and the somber effects of wars.

For several years, Canned Heat along and their fellow bluesman John Lee Hooker had been playing shows together but never recorded an album with each other, that was until the folks at Liberty Records awarded their favorite boogie band the opportunity to cut a double album extravaganza with The Hook, aptly titled Hooker ‘N Heat.

The session first two sides featured John Lee Hooker shouting the blues and tapping his feet, while cleverly placing microphones all over to the studio to catch every nuance and beat of this sorely missed blues master. Listen to the man do his thing on Messin' With The Hook, You Talk Too Much and Meet Me In The Bottom. In addition to Hooker, the late great Alan Wilson would also be featured on harp and piano for several of these amazingly raw solo tracks. As fate would have it, his gentle spirit soon departed Earth, making these The Blind Owl’s final commercial recordings.

The remaining sides feature the full Canned Heat band and John Lee Hooker laying down some of the finest rock and blues boogie ever recorded. With the combination of Bob Hite manning the mixing board with Skip Taylor, Henry Vestine’s atomic lead guitar, Fito de la Parra’s powerful boogie beat, the dynamic Alan Wilson on guitar and harmonica, Tony de la Barreda’s bass and John Lee Hooker’s tenacious vocal and guitar, there never was or will be a more incredible display of the boogie ever caught on wax. Just check out the groove of Let’s Make It, the jump blues of the hit single Whiskey and Wimmen’ or the battle royal boogie of Boogie Chillen No. 2.

"He was beloved worldwide as the king of the endless boogie, a genuine blues superstar whose droning, hypnotic one-chord grooves were at once both ultra-primitive and timeless. But John Lee Hooker recorded in a great many more styles than that over a career that stretched across more than half a century.

"'The Hook' was a Mississippi native who became the top gent on the Detroit blues circuit in the years following World War II. The seeds for his eerily mournful guitar sound were planted by his stepfather, Will Moore, while Hooker was in his teens. Hooker had been singing spirituals before that, but the blues took hold and simply wouldn't let go. Overnight visitors left their mark on the youth, too: legends like Blind Lemon Jefferson, Charley Patton, and Blind Blake, who all knew Moore.

"In 1948, the aspiring bluesman hooked up with entrepreneur Bernie Besman, who helped him hammer out his solo debut sides, "Sally Mae" and its seminal flip, "Boogie Chillen." Backed only by his own ringing heavly amplified guitar and insistently pounding foot, 'Boogie Chillen' — a colorful travelogue of Detroit's blues scene — made an improbably jaunt to the very peak of the R&B charts." — All Music Guide

"In 1951 Hooker was enjoying the raging success of recent singles and gearing up to wax his urgent folk blues for a host of record companies under various noms de blooze. Chess was one of the firms, and twelve sides cut between 1951 and 1954 eventually turned up on this 1959 long-player. Hooker's singing, lubricious and steely, inveighs against annoying women; his rudimental guitar is exciting; and his stamping the plywood floor in ruttish insistence makes for exemplary blues rhythm. Most of the tracks have him solo." —

Limited Edition

Limited edition 180-gram vinyl reissue of the classic Chess Records LP

High definition premium virgin vinyl pressing for super fidelity

Originally released in 1961. Singer-guitarist John Lee Hooker didn't spend much time with Chess, the giant of Chicago blues, although he didn't spend a lot of time with any label. Chess 1400 series was released under the alias John Lee Booker. Chess 1462 was also released on Von Battle's Gone label. By spring of 1951 the Chess and Bihari brothers (Modern) appear to have struck some sort of deal and Chess would never again use the Booker alias on Chess releases.

Hooker (1917-2001) was one of the most successful blues artists of the second half of the 20th century, yet his hypnotic brand of blues was in many ways a throwback to earlier times, before rules of rhyme, meter, and chord structure became standardized. The Clarksdale, Mississippi-born musician burst on the national scene with his first record, "Boogie Chillen," which topped Billboard's Most-Played Juke Box Race Record chart in 1949.

Like other recordings from Hooker's early studio sessions, the tunes featured here bristle with driving energy and ripple with the power of his shouted declarations. This is back porch music from the heart of the Delta, jolted to larger-than-life proportions by the electricity powering Hooker's guitar and by his own strong desire to quit sweeping factories and begin cleaning up on the charts. Although he often reworked themes by earlier bluesmen during this period, it was rare that Hooker outright covered another artist's material. So his riveting interpretations of Muddy Waters's "Please Don't Go" and Big Maceo Merriweather's "Worried Life Blues" peak this collection of solo turns.

1. The Journey 2. I Don't Want Your Money 3. Hey, Baby 4. Mad Man Blues 5. Bluebird 6. Worried Life Blues 7. Apologize 8. Lonely Boy Boogie 9. Please Don't Go 10. Dreamin' Blues 11. Hey Boogie 12.

JOHN LEE HOOKER THAT'S MY STORY LP - 140 GRAM PRESSING

Features "Leave My Wife Alone" & More!

That's My Story was recorded in one session on February 9, 1960 at Reeves Sound Studio in New York City. It was produced by Orrin Keepnews and features the rhythm section from saxophonist Cannonball Adderley's group, which included bassist Sam Jones and drummer Louis Hayes

The great country blues tradition that began with nameless wanderers, and first reached a wide public through the records of early singers like Blind Lemon Jefferson, has produced some of the most fundamental, nakedly emotional and deeply moving of all American music. So it should not be surprising that this music has always retained its power to hold and to stir listeners. Even through many years when the old blues seemed to have gone out of fashion, this great tradition would not die. And, as if to prove its immortality, there now appears to be a considerable resurgence: for one thing, the 'soul music' that is a direct spiritual descendant of country blues has become a dominant element in much of instrumental modern jazz; for another, a singer like Hooker can sing the honest blues the way he really feels them.

Much of the material Hooker sings and plays here is, of course, in the time-honored blues tradition: there are songs of fulfilled love ("I Want to Talk About You") and of departed lovers ("Wednesday Evenin'"), of harshly sardonic realism ("I Need Some Money") and of wistful longing ("I Believe I'll Go Back Home"). "Gonna Use My Rod" is a 'talking blues' in a familiar enough vein: the singer is warning his best friend to "leave my wife alone." Others, though, are more off the beaten path. "One of These Days" and "Come On And See About Me" are actually of gospel-song origin, although treated with a blues feeling; the latter is particularly effective in its merging of plaintiveness with a sharp note of impatience. "Democrat Man" is nothing less than social-political commentary, far more outspoken than blues of the old tradition would have dared to be, although topical material was often an important part of the early blues repertoire.

What it all adds up to is that John Lee is an individual: an emotion-stirring singer and powerful blues guitarist, firmly rooted in a great tradition, but very much a man of today. That's his tory, and it is surely also a way of making it clear that the blues are as new as they are old, and will probably always be that way.

“The liner notes (in the fashion of the day) are almost apologetic... emphasizing that [the rhythm section is] not to create R&B rhythms, but “to free Hooker from the burden of carrying the full rhythm load.” To make matters more palatable for the purists, maybe that’s why a couple of jazz players were chosen for the job (bassist Sam Jones and drummer Louis Hayes, who formed the rhythm section for Cannonball Adderley at the time). What’s important is not how pure the music is, but that it’s a decent album, striking a good midpoint between his acoustic and electric sound.” — All Music Guide

John Lee Hooker The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP

Special 180g Vinyl LP Reissue!

John Lee Hooker is the most down-home of the major post-war blues figures, “a most authentic singer of the way-back, close-to-the-soil kind of blues,” as Orrin Keepnews once wrote. Of his innumerable recordings, The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker is perhaps the truest to Hooker’s Mississippi roots.

The celebrated guitarist set his usual amplified instrument aside, in exchange for an acoustic guitar, only accompanied by his voice. The result is an intimate, wonderfully varied set of deep Delta blues, moans and boogies. Some songs are autobiographical, others re-workings of blues standards—all stamped with the hauntingly personal John Lee Hooker touch.

John Lee Hooker Boogie Chillun 2 LP LIMITED EDITION

 Special Vinyl LP Reissue!

John Lee Hooker's music is defiantly elemental-mood, tempo, chord sequences (almost none), and jagged rhythms vary little. This collection was recorded in 1962 and features the song "Boogie Chillun."

"There's something of a muted "unplugged" feel to these solo performances...it's the kind of Hooker you might want to put on past midnight." -Richie Unterberger, allmusic.com
