 You should never pass up the opportunity to upgrade your collection. They're each very limited in their pressings and disappear with extraordinary quickness from the vinyl market. VOLUME 1 - Like a lot of second-wave funk bands, EARTH, WIND & FIRE were adept at balancing slickness and rawness. They achieved truly miraculous moments like the rocking “Shining Star” (which was their lone number one pop single) and the gloriously syncopated “September”. “Got To Get You Into My Life” -- is a unified cover of the Beatles’ hit and is one of the greatest Beatles covers from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

When it was originally released in 1978, The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1 was a succinct, ten-track collection of the group's best and biggest singles up to that point. There was one brand-new song, the excellent "September," which soon became a hit in its own right, plus the non-LP Beatles cover "Got to Get You Into My Life," which was recorded for the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band film, makes its first appearance on an EWF album here. EWF's commercial prime hadn't yet ended when this collection appeared; thus, it's missing several crucial latter-day hits, including the slinky funk of "Serpentine Fire," the ballad "After the Love Has Gone," and the disco smashes "Let's Groove" and "Boogie Wonderland." But even if it's an incomplete hits collection, The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1 still ranks as a strong encapsulation of EWF the funk innovators. The singles gathered here constitute some of the richest, most sophisticated music the funk movement ever produced; when the absolute cream of the group's catalog is heard in such a concentrated fashion, the effect is dazzling.

EARTH, WIND & FIRE were a large ensemble who incorporated jazz, soul and funk into their music with a positive attitude. 

VOLUME 2 - EARTH, WIND & FIRE retained their hit-making touch into the ‘80s, as this sequel to their 1978 BEST OF makes clear with “Let’s Groove” (1981) and “Turn On (The Bent Box)” (1988). EARTH, WIND & FIRE fans will find it difficult to assemble the Greatest Hits by this powerful group. Almost all of their songs qualify as great hits. They laid a remarkable foundation for the Disco Era with a combination of vocal styles.

Tracks include: Turn On (The Beat Box) - Let’s Groove - After The Love Has Gone - Fantasy - Devotion - Serpentine Fire - Love’s Holiday - Boogie Wonderland - Saturday Nite and Mighty Mighty.

When life deals you lemons, you make lemonade. After the tremendous failure of The Fire's 1983 cosmic voyage, Electric Universe, the legendary band came crashing down to Earth. After a four-year hiatus and a few solo efforts, a reformed EW&F picked up the pieces and released Touch The World, which I consider to be their "down to Earth" album.

The album has a much more street feel than ever before, with much attitude and plenty of "boom-bap" in almost every cut. The joints to cue up here are "System Of Survival", which challenges everyday stress with dance; "Evil Roy", for those cats that stay doin' nuthin'; "Thinking Of You", another slick R&B cut; and "Touch The World", whihc features the Hawkins Family and is the first gospel joint from this group since "Burnin' Bush" off their '76 album, Spirit. This album stands out because of its era-appropriateness at the time of release.

I'm glad to see copies of this available because ANY fan of
Earth,Wind & Fire should here this. Yes it's  a smaller lineup but
techno-funk beasts like "System Of Survival", "Evil Roy"," Thinking
Of You", "Money Tight" and "Victim Of A Modern Heart" are worthy
of inclusion on ANY EWF best-of package! And with the gospel of the title track, the pretty "Here Today And Gone Tomorrow" and
the instrumental "New Horizons" which recalls past hits this
is EWF's last full-album classic.
