Alternative and indie darlings R.E.M. broke through to mainstream music listeners while still affiliated with I.R.S. Records, probably the most well-respected indie label going at the time. On this recording, the "little band from Athens GA" had their first big hit song, The One I Love. As always, Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Bill Berry were not content to rest on their laurels and instead struck out into some new territory.

SLEEVE (VG+): This used 31-year-old vinyl LP comes with the original two-color paper inner sleeve with liner notes. No splits, no rips, no marks.

JACKET (VG): The cardboard jacket sports standard shelving and storage wear. No splits. Minimal ring wear, no crinkling. All text readable. (The image shown is my own original scan.) Has barcode.

RECORD (VG): Minimal scratches, scuffs. Black text and spy guy on silver I.R.S. label.

This is not a cut-out or a record-club pressing. It is the original major label issue.

Note: I haven't cleaned this record because everybody seems to prefer their own methods. I'll leave the cleaning up to the buyer. Also, I'm not a professional vinyl seller or buyer, but if I had to rate this album, I'd give it a VERY GOOD because it comes from my own collection and I know it’s been cared for. Bought new at the Record Exchange in downtown Blacksburg VA.

Enjoy the auction -- and good luck!
