I cannot date this record but the thickness of the cover, the weight of the vinyl and the typography suggests, to me at least, 1950s or early 60s. Somewhat rare. The vinyl is in very nice condition and plays with a fair amount of background (4-5) but nothing that is not acceptable. Cover sound but with much discolouration on the back. American issue. The plain inner is not original.
Background.
On
a scale of 1 to 10;
1-2. Suitable to be listened to by
angels.
3-4; Very mild. Confined to intros, outros and the leads
in/out at beginning and end of sides.
4-5; As above but
with some in quieter section.
6-7; As above but somewhat
persistent.
8-9; Particularly annoying.
10; Someone has
cleaned it using a Brillo pad.
On
buying vinyl;
I grade all my vinyl by sound, not by
looks. I have many L.Ps that look 'Mint' but play only
v.g. or v.g.++.
What is almost inevitable is that
older vinyl will have the occasional mild click and will
certainly have what I call 'background' – the noise of the
record/pick-up beneath the recorded sound. This is most evident
between tracks and in quieter sections. This is sometimes
referred to as 'static' but static can be removed by various
means and I therefore regard its use in this context as
unintentionally misleading. Some background can be removed by
cleaning (See below) but some is due to damage caused by
previous use, and in particular by the use of a less than
satisfactory stylus. Grading by sight will not detect this
damage.
All my records are cleaned using the
Loricraft PRC4 and are very clean. This does not prevent them being,
usually, between 40 to 60 years old.
