Title: Valtari
Artist: Sigur Ros
Catalog: USA XL Recordings XL LP 570 Released May 2012
Jacket: Near mint as new
LP: Near mint as new
Notes:
After a small hiatus, Sigur Rós is finally back
with Valtari. The band said that the album would be more electronic, than their
previous work, and while they do have a point about that, the only thing that I
feel that's electronic, is the ambience and a few ambient textures. Surprisingly,
ambience dominates the whole album, and there's hardly any drums, or any
guitars for that matter (though they are still there), something which long
time fans might have issues with. Personally however, it works amazingly. All
of the tracks has a special atmosphere about them, that just pulls you into
it's own little world.
Among the standout tracks, are
"Varúð," one of the few tracks on the album that has drums and
guitars. The track starts out pretty calmly, and gradually builds up to a
really epic ending, complete with a childrens choir. "Dauðalogn" is
without a doubt the best track on the entire album. Besides being really
beautiful, it's really emotional, even if you don't know what Jónsi is singing
about.
