This lot contains five 10-inch 78 RPM records featuring Bing Crosby, all on the Decca label. Most of the sides are considered "hot" enough for inclusion in Brian Rust's iconic Hot Jazz Discography, information from which is included below where relevant. All five records showed up for the first picture, then they are shown individually, both sides, in the following order:
Decca # 2640 -- "An Apple for the Teacher" by Bing Crosby and Connie Boswell; and "Still the Bluebird Sings" by Bing Crosby, both with John Scott Trotter and His Orchestra. (Neither side is in Rust.)
Decca # 1483 -- "Basin Street Blues" and "Bob White", both by Bing Crosby and Connie Boswell with John Scott Trotter and His Orchestra. According to Rust, both sides were recorded in Los Angeles on September 25, 1937.
Decca # 18427 -- "I'll Capture Your Heart" by Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, assisted by Margaret Lenhart; and "Lazy" by Bing Crosby, both with Bob Crosby and His Orchestra. According to Rust, both sides were recorded in Los Angeles in two different sessions in May, 1942.
Decca # 1185 -- "What Will I Tell My Heart" and "Too Marvelous for Words", both by Bing Crosby with Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra. According to Rust, both sides were recorded in Los Angeles on March 3, 1937.
Decca # 3887 -- "Pale Moon" by Bing Crosby with the Merry Macs and Bob Crosby's Bob Cats; and "Who Calls?" by Bing Crosby with John Scott Trotter and His Orchestra. According to Rust, "Pale Moon" was recorded in Los Angeles on December 23, 1940. "Who Calls?" is not listed in Rust.
The first one looks virtually unplayed, still beautifully shiny and hardly any visible or audible surface wear.
The others are in used and worn condition, not as shiny as they used to be, and with visible surface scuffs and scratches and dull spots. All four play through without skipping or repeating on my Audio-Technica turntable, and with mostly just light background noise, but interspersed with pops and clicks and some passages of ticking or swishing. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment. Please check the pictures for any label damage or inscriptions or stickers.
Also included are the Decca sleeves shown in the pictures, which are chipped and creased and torn and add nothing to the overall value.
International Buyers – Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. Customs fees are normally charged by the shipping company or collected when you pick the item up. These fees are not additional shipping charges. We won't under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms. Doing that is against U.S. and international laws. COMBINED SHIPPING: See our seller list for other interesting and unusual items, in fact bid on several and you might save on shipping and handling. If you buy multiple items, and if it's feasible and cost-effective for us to ship the items together, we will gladly consider requests to combine shipping at a reduced cost. Just e-mail us, and we can provide combined shipping cost estimates on a case-by-case basis. Depending on weight and other considerations, we typically offer full shipping rate for the first item, then 50 cents or $1.00 per item. And if you are purchasing multiple items, please make the payment as a single payment, rather than trying to pay for each item separately. Oh, and this may sound obvious, but we can't reduce the shipping charges for items on which we offer free shipping.
