INFO : A heavyweight slab (145g) of this 1980 ‘black label / yellow border’ Australian
2nd release (the 1st 1978 issue was a blue label with later releases
black, then red) of this 5th Aussie studio album that surfaced a
year after ‘Let There Be Rock’ and just prior to 'Highway To Hell'. It also was the first album to feature long time
bassist Cliff Williams, who replaced Mark Evans. The lead-in killer 'Rock
'n' Roll Damnation' has since been one of their staple (and requested) live
tracks. In a word … sheer consistent hard rock that deserves to be cranked up
LOUD.
Independent Review : ‘Powerage’ showpieces a blistering guitar crescendo throughout that jigsaws another brilliant platter of work from this almighty band.
RECORDING
: MAXICUT - A UNIQUE DISC CUTTING PROCESS
Maxicut is the term that Studios 301 applied
to several modifications of their Neumann VMS-70 disc lathes. These changes are
contained on two printed circuit boards which replaced the Neumann SV-66-V2 and
TE-66 cards.
Maxicut is a process that allowed the cutting at
a significantly higher level, typically 6-8dB (normally 1-2 dB), without the
normal tracking problems that less expensive turntable/cartridge units usually
exhibit in trying to track these higher recorded levels. The end result is a
superior play-back quality compared to what was available at other pressing
plants at the time.
Note : All records (except where Mint) have been vacuum-machine cleaned and fully played on a quality system to determine an accurate grading.
While I endeavour to be as honest as possible with my condition appraisal the nature of vinyl is such that it is inevitable that a I will miss some form of background noise at some point … different Needles, Stylus's (depending on wear) and players will pick up some clicks, crackles and hiss so I can't guarantee total correctness once you play them … but I always strive to paint an accurate description.
*** Most records no matter how well they have been looked after will have some hairline marks which occur during the removal and re-inserting the vinyl from the inner sleeve. Generally speaking these surface scuffs have little or no impact on the audio-quality.
VINYL : Visually it shows a few light scuff marks though you wouldn’t know it once it hits the turntable. Still plenty of shine on this one which is reflected in the bright and clear play-back that delivers a great listen throughout. No skips and a bright clean sound that will not disappoint. Rated a VG+ with confidence.
LABELS :
SLEEVE : No issues here. The picture cover is in fantastic condition. No marks. No creases. No writing. No rubbing or ring-wear. No splits and the spine is intact. Presents superbly and graded EX+ accordingly.
POSTAGE : I pack safely & securely. I combine postage costs for multiple items where practical.
