This lot contains eight 10-inch 78 RPM records featuring Bob Crosby, seven of them on the Decca label, and most of them (as noted individually in parentheses below) are considered "hot" enough for inclusion in Brian Rust's iconic Hot Jazz Discography. All eight records showed up for the first picture, then they are shown in pairs, both sides, in the following order. Tracks are instrumental unless a vocalist is stated.
Decca # 3417 -- "You Forgot About Me" and "Gone But Not Forgotten" by Bob Crosby and His Orchestra, with vocals by Bob Crosby and the Bob-o-Links on Side 1, and by Bonnie King on Side 2. (Both sides listed in Rust, with recording dates September, 1940.)
Decca # 2848 -- "Boogie Woogie Maxixe" and "High Society" by Bob Crosby and His Orchestra. (Both sides listed in Rust, with recording dates in August and October, 1939, respectively.)
Decca # 2703 -- "Day In - Day Out" and "Cherry" by Bob Crosby and His Orchestra, with vocals by Helen Ward on Side 1, and by Hilton "Nappy" Lamare on Side 2. (Both sides listed in Rust, with recording dates in July and January, 1939, respectively.)
Decca # 1657 -- "Always and Always" and "More than Ever" by Bob Crosby and His Orchestra, with vocals by Kay Weber on Side 1, and by Bob Crosby on Side 2. (Both sides listed in Rust, with a recording date of February 3, 1938.)
Decca # 2206 -- "Speak to Me of Love" and "The Big Bass Viol" by Bob Crosby's Bob Cats, with vocals by Marion Mann on both sides. (Both sides listed in Rust, with a recording date of October 14, 1938.)
Decca # 1600 -- "Martha, Ah So Pure" and "Home on the Range" by Connie Boswell with Bob Crosby's Bob Cats. (Both sides listed in Rust, with a recording date of November 13, 1937.)
Decca (UK) # F.7593 -- "Melancholy Mood" and "The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise" by Bob Crosby and His Orchestra, with vocals by Bob Crosby on Side 1 only. (Both sides listed in Rust, with recording dates in July and August, 1939, respectively.)
Coral # 60312 -- "Rainbow Gal" and "Watchin' the Trains Go By" by Bob Crosby and His Bob Cats, with vocals by Bob Crosby and the Bob-o-Links on both sides. (Not listed in Rust, presumably missed the 1942 cut-off date.)
They could all use a good cleaning, but are otherwise in are in lightly to moderately played condition, most of them still relatively shiny, and varying degrees of visible surface wear. All eight played through without skipping or repeating on my Audio-Technica turntable, and with mostly just typical light background noise, but with some scattered pops and clicks and short passages of ticking. "Home on the Range" and "Gone but not Forgotten" both had more than the average amounts of ticking, and the Coral won the prize for "most in need of cleaning." Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment. Please check the pictures for any label damage or inscriptions or stickers.
