1984 O'Jays Westwood One Special Edition Radio Program
O’Jays – “Special Edition” (Westwood One 84-42). This program is from the week of October 13-14, 1984 and features one hour of music and interview with the O’Jays, an R&B group from Canton, Ohio, that was originally formed in 1958 and which reached their greatest level of success once Gamble & Huff, a team of producers and songwriters, signed them to their Philadelphia International label in 1972. With Gamble & Huff, the O'Jays emerged at the forefront of Philadelphia soul with "Back Stabbers" (1972), and topped the Billboard Hot 100 the following year with what some consider to be the first disco hit song, "Love Train." Numerous other hits followed through the 1970s and into the 1980s and 1990s, and The O'Jays were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and in 2013 they were inducted into National Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame. This is the Part II of a 2-week program (part 1 being broadcast the previous week.) Cuts include: “Backstabbers”; “Message in Our Music”; “Darlin’ Darlin’ Baby”; “Work On Me”; “Use Ta Be My Girl”; “Forever Mine”; “Girl, Don’t Let it Get You Down” “I Just Want to Satisfy You”; and “Extraordinary Girl”. Includes cue sheet. Record and cover (crease at bottom right corner) are in VG+ condition.
