ANGELIC UPSTARTS - I UNDERSTAND - 3 TRACK 12" VINYL E.P.

Fantastic 12" from original Punk Legends the Angelic Upstarts, Inspired initially by The Clash, regular face around town Mensi just like Strummer felt he also had plenty to say, and formed the upstarts in South Shields, Tyneside in 1977.

By the following year they had self-released their debut single, "The Murder of Liddle Towers/Police Oppression and from then on they were simply unstoppable, Mensi was a man of the people and used his voice and influence to enlighten everyone who would listen, politics were high on the upstarts agenda and were often featured within Mensi's typically working class lyrics.

The band were never far from controversy or outrage but still managed to produce some of the greatest ever punk records, I was lucky enough to witness the great man himself looming large over many upstarts gigs I attended and Mensi always delivered a powerful performance on stage, I for one will miss his mighty presence - Mensi R.I.P.

This I acquired from a large private punk record collection I bought recently so lots more to list in the coming months.

Fantastic 12" limited edition of their classic track 'I Understand', it was an ode to Richard Campbell who died mysteriously in Ashford Prison, this was one of Mensi's passions holding the establishment responsible for any injustices in the world and it's an amazing track given added bite with Jake Burns & Jim Reilly from Stiff Little Fingers adding backing vocals.

The sleeve was ridiculous and plain lazy by the record company who just blew up the 7" sleeve to 12" size, hardly surprising that not that many fans bought the 12" when most thought it contained the same two tracks as the 7" when in fact it also featured 'Heaths Lament' as an extra track but they couldn't be bothered to add this information to the actual sleeve.

Anyway gripe over the sleeve is in good overall condition for age, light storage wear and superficial edge creases, vinyl is looking excellent just usual hairlines that won't affect play.

Serious collector's who buy from me on a regular basis will know the importance of having this in their punk record collection.

grab it while it's here, this is a glorious upstarts release.

Low start and no reserve.
