THE VARUKERS - DAMNED & DEFIANT - ORIGINAL ALBUM + LYRIC INSERT.

Originally called Veruccas, the band altered the spelling of their name to "The Varukers" as they felt this would convey more aggression.

They were a proud part of the "UK82" trend of second generation punk, or you could say the first swell of UK hardcore.

Along with bands such as Discharge, Chaos UK, Disorder, The Exploited, and G.B.H. they took the existing 1977 era punk sound and melded it with the incessant, heavy drumbeats and "wall of sound" distortion guitar of British Heavy Metal.

Inspired by the renewed interest in bands such as Motorhead this new, harder-edged style also tended to use darker, more nihilistic, and more violent lyrics.

With the Varukers the preference was vocals that were more often shouted rather than sung, despite playing an important part in the growing Punk / Metal scene the band never seemed to keep up with the pack, eventually calling it a day in 1989.

For many they were a people's band, they kept true to their roots and they had the most loyal fans any band could ever wish for, the Varukers have rightly earned their place in the Punk Rock history books.

This quality release with 15 punk stormers will take you back to when Street Punk was king, and The Varukers were one of the bands leading the charge.

New and looks unplayed to me limited pressing with free lyric insert, acquired within a large private punk collection I bought recently, lots more to list in the coming months so keep checking my listings, a truly great album crammed with Street Punk Classics...!
