SHAM 69 - THE GAME - ORIGINAL ITALLIAN IMPORT ALBUM.
Sham 69 were formed in Hersham, Surrey in 1975, the name 'Sham 69' is said to have derived from a piece of graffiti that co-founder Jimmy Pursey saw on a wall. It originally said Walton and Hersham '69 but had partly faded away.
The 12 November 1976 issue of the NME noted that Sham 69 were rehearsing in 1976, but only Jimmy Pursey would remain from this very early line-up just twelve months later.
Sham 69 did not have the art school background of many English punk bands, they used football chant style backup vocals and a hatred of the political and social systems that seemed so unfair to the working classes.
Unfortunately for the band this attracted a large mad skinhead following and their concerts were often plagued by extreme bloody violence, the band ceased live performances after a 1979 concert at the Rainbow which was basically one large punch up.
Despite this the band went on to become one of the most successful of all the early punk bands and this their fourth album is a classic with a great track list that captures them at their absolute peak, for me personally 'The Game' remains one of their very best albums.
This is pressed on good quality vinyl, and was issued by polydor in Italy, the sleeve has some very mild storage wear and that is all that's really worth mentioning with absolutely no marks on the vinyl itself so all in all a tasty addition to any decent punk collection.
Item acquired within a large private punk collection I bought recently, lots more to list in the coming months so keep checking my listings.
