This lot contains a set of five 12-inch 78 rpm records of a wedding ceremony, the details of which are typed on to the label of the first side, which reads as follows: "The Wedding of Anne Rudd and James Douglas Galyon, First Congregational Christian Church, Greensboro, North Carolina. Saturday June 6, 1953. 5:30 p.m." Sides 2 through 10 are then labeled simply "Rudd-Galyon Wedding." The recording credit on the printed labels is in the name of "Vic Smith's Radio Recording Service", also located in Greensboro, North Carolina.
To narrow down the content, the records are auto-coupled, meaning sides 1 and 10 are back to back, as are sides 2 and 9, 3 and 8, and so on. Playing the sides in the correct sequence, the content breaks down as follows:
Sides 1-3: Organ music
Side 4: Male solo, "My waking thoughts to Thee are turning"
Side 5: More organ music
Side 6: Male solo, "Because you come to me"
Side 7: Male solo, "Whither thou goeth, I will go"
Sides 8-10: Wedding ceremony.
A footnote about the wedding couple. James Douglas Galyon (1930-2019), known as "Doug", served on the Greensboro City Council, Guilford County Board of Commissioners and North Carolina Board of Transportation. In 2005, the remodeled Greensboro Station was converted into a combined bus and train depot and renamed "The J. Douglas Galyon Depot." Anne Rudd Galyon passed away in 2001. Both were graduates of Greensboro High School.
The records are still beautifully shiny, but with a few scuffs and scratches. I played them all on my Audio-Technica turntable, and I detected no skips or jumps, but varying levels of background noise, ranging from negligible to audible, with occasional pops or clicks or ticking, but nothing overwhelming.
They will be shipped in the Audiodisc paper sleeves they were found in, but they are badly torn and chipped and add nothing to the value.
International Buyers – Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. Customs fees are normally charged by the shipping company or collected when you pick the item up. These fees are not additional shipping charges. We won't under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms. Doing that is against U.S. and international laws. COMBINED SHIPPING: See our seller list for other interesting and unusual items, in fact bid on several and you might save on shipping and handling. If you buy multiple items, and if it's feasible and cost-effective for us to ship the items together, we will gladly consider requests to combine shipping at a reduced cost. Just e-mail us, and we can provide combined shipping cost estimates on a case-by-case basis. Depending on weight and other considerations, we typically offer full shipping rate for the first item, then 50 cents or $1.00 per item. And if you are purchasing multiple items, please make the payment as a single payment, rather than trying to pay for each item separately. Oh, and this may sound obvious, but we can't reduce the shipping charges for items on which we offer free shipping.
