CROWLEY, Aleister, & Chakra ( Janice Ayers, Kenneth Grant, and Mike Magee ) [45rpm record]: 'The Voice of Aleister Crowley: "Pentagram" & "La Gitana"' [and] Chakra performing "Scarlet Woman". London: Forum Group Agency / Marabo, [1975]. First Edition Thus. 7 inch vinyl 45 rpm record in red paper sleeve, printed in black on both sides. Sleeve design on the front is by Steffi Grant, design on back cover is by Jan Bailey. The Crowley material was part of a group of readings, recorded mostly at HMV in London onto acetate "transcription disks" between 1936 and 1942. A single 6 3/8 x 6 3/8 inch printed sheet (on recto only) with explanatory text is loosely inserted. The text is headed "The Unique and Mysterious Voice of Aleister Crowley reading two of his most famous poems" and gives details of the production, etc. It was apparently inserted in some, but not all, of the records distributed. There is a tiny closed tear to top front of record sleeve, otherwise sleeve and insert in near fine condition. The record appears to be in excellent condition. A very scarce item. The "a side" of the record comprises recordings of Crowley reading his poems "La Gitana" and "Pentagram" while the "b side" has a recording of a performance by "Scarlet Woman" described as a "Rock Invocation of the Goddess" made by modern devotees of the magical Current" (Bob Ponton, Janice Ayers, Kenneth Grant, and Mike Magee) performing under the name "Chakra." The music was written by Bob Ponton, and the lyrics by Mike Magee. Ponton is the lead singer with Ayers, Magee and Kenneth Grant doing the background chant.
