In October 2023 Lady Blackbird took a break from extensively touring Black Acid Soul to lay down some tracks in Los Angeles with producer and guitarist Chris Seefried, Foundation Music Label head and A&R Ross Allen. They decamped for a week long recording session with Jon Flaugher on acoustic and electric bass, Kenneth Crouch on keys, and Tamir Barzilay on drums and percussion at legendary LA studio complex East West (where the Beach Boys cut “Pet Sounds” and Marvin Gaye recorded “Lets Get it On”). They put down tracks that Lady Blackbird and Chris Seefried had been writing whilst on the road... Some magic happened, the bare bones of a record, and then some, were tracked. This basically brings us to where we are, bar the fact that we haven’t mentioned the songs. This album is where Lady Blackbird truly embarks on HER journey. These songs — all penned by her and Chris Seefried bar “It Must Be Love” and “When The Game Is Played On You” — really reflect where she is at as an artist in 2024. As she says: “Slang Spirituals has turned out to be a very personal body of work. In this life’s journey, I find myself rewriting my own version of the book... May you listen to this album and find complete and pure acceptance, freedom and love.” Purify & Radiate, It is her gospel, her songs sung the way she wants, with her true spirit, and her world view truly singing out...
