This was the very first official release, being released on the 22nd of March 1963 (MONO version) and later on the 26th of April 1963 (STEREO version). The Lp reached number one in; Disc Weekly, Melody Maker,  New Musical Express and The Record Retailer in the UK. Only to be knocked off by their next album With The Beatles.

 

 Amazingly the songs, which were taken from their first two singles and included a further ten songs, were all recorded in one marathon session at Abbey Road Studios. John wasn't feeling too well and got throught the 3 sessions in the one day by having milk, tea and Zubes lozenges....

HEAVYWEIGHT QUALITY 169g

VG-. Nice, heavy & shiny vinyl! She does carry some needle marks to her....but only occasionally heard in playback.

 I have just finished listening to all of her and found one tiny jump to Misery and another small one to Boys-other than that there is some light and occasional background noise-really nothing to detract from the DEEP rich and clear bass, with an overall superb audio reproduction!

GREAT RAW SOUND TOO

 

 

Labels: VG+. There is minimal central hole wear-as can be seen in the detailed images provided, with some light spindle marks evident.

 Outer rim text starts with "The Parlophone Co.Ltd" "Recording First Published 1963" stated under the printed matrix number.

NO "Sold In UK..." statement...Showing it is the 5th pressing.

Inner: P. ORIGINAL white die-cut inner. Does have splits to each side.

Also has the much earlier:

"PATENTS APPLIED FOR" text to one side....which is very rarely seen on these white inners!

RARER 1st PRINTING EJ DAY COVER

( These were produced at roughly a ration of 1:10, compared to the usual Garrod & Lofthouse covers)

 There is some wear to the front cover, with some light spidering to the laminate, as well as the top right corner being cut off.....

The thicker HEAVYWEIGHT card cover has also had some rubbing to the edges in patches, with the bottom flipback being damaged as you can see in the images provided..

The spine is in great condition and is bright white with perfectly legible Please Please Me title.

 A genuine 1st printing Ernest J Day cover with the Angus McBean in the lower right corner on the front.

All in all this copy...

Has the rarer EJ Day cover.

She is a very SOLID record for any collection-providing an excellent rich sound reproduction which, at the very least would make a very good filler.
