HAND PRODUCED SILKSCREEN ART
BY DAMON ROBERTS -X- GLASS SIREN STUDIO
This print has been produced on a custom built manual silkscreen printing press.
The detailed linear composition has been built up using individual silkscreen applications of muted greys,
charcoals, metalic pigments and a fine layer of overprinted opacity reduced white on the extremities
of the image. This monotone palate of colours used has created a subtle, ultra fine print which
really comes to life under direct lighting conditions which highlights the individual tonal elements of the image.
Produced on a high quality heavy duty recycled stock from the British Paperback Co-operative.
Stamped & Signed in pencil. (Size 450mm x 640mm)
Supplied in strong cardboard mailer to ensure safe transit with wax seal
Glass Siren Studio provenance card.
Due to maintaining a busy studio production schedule,
I only do one postal run per week.
I will happily combine postage costs for you on multiple orders
The Aliminus 500mm x 700mm frame featured below is available from Habitat - (not included)

A TRANSMISSION FROM THE GRAPHIC UNDERGROUND
The internet was already moulding this brave new world and the day to day frustrations of the design
industry was biting deep. Change was in the air. I needed to shift focus
or at least a deviation from the course i was on. I decided to take a chance on the plethora of visual ideas
that had been gnawing away at me for what seemed an eternity to begin
exploring how i could bring these to life through the medium of print on
my own terms. The raison d'être for establishing the silkscreen
facility Glass Siren Studio over a decade ago.
A relentless cycle
of experimentation followed, developing new processes and bastardising
traditional print techniques, working in a trial and error fashion to
uncover the magic I knew could be achieved with this particular print
method which had always fascinated me. A costly, time consuming affair
which has gone completely against the instant gratification culture of
present times. This was never going to be an easy path, but now knowing
the ideas that once resided only in my head have started to come to
fruition through these works and have been adopted into others lives
begins to start to making sense of the chaos of the last few years. Very
often people only see the finished works and never fully understand
energy, thought and physicality of the process that goes into getting
the ideas off the drawing board to the finished piece. I'm hoping the
new glass siren studio website which is now live will document this as
well as featuring new works that are currently under development.
Dedicating
yourself to a regime such as this takes over your life - its not a nine
to five occupation. (sometimes I wish it was). The silkscreen process
is far removed from the simple act of pressing print on a computer
screen, its a physical hands on operation. Starting with the film
outputs from the original artwork I create through to making the actual
silkscreens with a photo sensitive emulsion in the dark room to the
printing press proofing stage, mixing inks and binders testing out all
the possibilities of the processes at my disposal before even creating
one finished piece - and if i'm not happy with the results it straight
back to the beginning. A never ending cylcle. My studio over time has
gradually amassed all the necessary means of production under one roof,
to the point where space restrictions are now hindering production of
works of a larger scale which is the logical progression from here.
The processes i'm working with are still throwing up many new possibilities which need to be explored.
I'm
wanting the next pieces that emerge from the Glass Siren Studio to push
these ideas further and build on what i've already achieved so far.
I've
want these early works to be obtainable to anyone with an interest in
what I do. Knowing what i've produced has been so well received from the
feedback i've had makes effort, anxiety and fractured sleep patterns
i've endured so far wort it. Only recently have I started to break free
from the studio shackles now i'm confident sufficient ground has been
covered to start engaging in some dialogue with the established art
world looking at how and where this can go in the future. For the time
being you can still obtain some of my output via these random auction
channels with low reserves. I'm currently in the early stages of production of a building new printing press which is going to enable me to create work on a much bigger scale, all proceeds from the sales of these SRA2 silkscreen prints offered here will be channeled into this project.
If you want to help me progress please share these listings on you social media channels.
GOOD LUCK
