Kyle Thomas, native of Vermont and full-time deadbeat renaissance man, has plied his trade in numerous outfits over the last few years, from the demented folk of Feathers to the downcast '70s doom-rock of Witch, yet King Tuff marks an alter ego that takes a time warped journey through the last half-century of rock, eventually parking up somewhere around the early-'70s. Gloriously dumb, frequently gaudy and always audacious, Black Moon Spell - much like Ty Segall's recent Manipulator - is almost enough to make one want to wear platform boots and feather boas on a trip down to the corner shop; such is the pull of these full-on, decidedly Bolan-esque odes to reckless abandon.
