Although the London-based Purson are all in their mid-twenties, there'll be a part of their psyche in which it's forever 1971, with the aftermath of the psychedelic era opening up endless possibilities. Coming across somewhat like Curved Air essaying a set based on Sgt, Pepper-era Beatles and the soundtrack from Hair', 'Desire's Magic Theatre' is a veritable smorgasbord of theatrical bravado and eccentric extravagance from a band with no intention of either paying lip service to the here and now or limiting their horizons in any way. With Rosalie Cunningham's dulcet tones and elegant songcraft leading the way, this may be the most enjoyable timewarp available this year.
