Umberto is Kansas City via Los Angeles' Matt Hill who alongside his revolving cast of supporting musicians has been a staple of local imprint Not Not Fun for some years and this is his third album for the label since 2013's Confrontations LP. There's a variety of moods and grooves on here but as always, Hill's music always creates some sort of imaginary 80s horror soundtrack and this one is no different. But we particularly enjoyed the dark outsider techno of "Drifters", the spooky and slow burning industrial textures of Black Sea" or the pumping synth-pop groove of "Dawn Of Mirrors".
