Analogue synthesizer and modular electronics explorer Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe is usually at his best when delivering long, meandering and hypnotic workouts that defy easy categorization. Happily, that's exactly what he delivers on this two-track adventure on Latency. While many DJs may be instinctively drawn to the more rhythmic, dub techno inspired flipside "Heart of Sogguth" - its power is derived from subtle manipulations of modular noise clustered around a locked-in drum machine groove, after all - it's A-side "Magnamite" that's really floating our boat. Built around the twin attractions of exotic, Middle Eastern instrumentation and winding, stretched-out TB-303 style motifs, it's a hypnotic ambient excursion that gentles rises and falls over 15 mesmeric minutes.
