Annea Lockwood, an artist who is not name dropped often enough, is in the same sort of category as other future-minded producers like Delia Derbyshire, and the rest of the porto-electronic futurists. Born in 1939, it's fair to say that the lady knows a thing or two about the studio, and this 20 minute version of the legendary "Tiger Balm" is full proof of that; just picture the fact that this wonky, eerie and utterly immersive piece of music was made in 1970, when most people were growing their hair long, sticking flowers in their ears, and singing merrily to the likes of The Beatles. This woman was on another level. "Amazonia Dreaming" came a bit later, all the way down to 1987, but that still doesn't take away the fact that, once again, this is miles away from the sort of predictable pop gash that most people were tuning into; 1998's "Immersion" strays far out into the ambient field, a medley of sparse sonic which sound like the start of a Werner Herzog flick. Yes to Black Truffle for the handsome reissue action!
