Given his infamously high work rate, it's surprising to find that Legendary Freaks in the Trash of Time is Danny Wolfers first solo album as Legowelt for the best part of three years. Less surprising is the high quality threshold maintained throughout. The 12 tracks naturally touch on many of his usual musical themes, joining the dots between chiming and spacey analogue house, ragged basement-friendly workouts, vintage Detroit futurism, bustling electro, breakbeat-fuelled rave revivalism, deep acid bubblers, crystalline electronica and humid ambient fare. He also doffs a cap to the Orb (opener "My Life in a Bush of Spaceweed" doffs a cap to epic 1992 single "Blue Room") and Autechre's deeper early moments (superb closer "La Guerre Aux Reves"). All of Wolfers albums tend to be of a decent standard, but this one sounds a cut above many of its predecessors.
