Miles Davies George Gershwins Porgy  Bess Conducted by Gil Evans Vinyl LP Record

Factory Sealed Vinyl LP

Jazz musicians are noted for having long careers. But most fade in and out of fashion and popularity. Certainly, few have been as influential during their career as Miles Dewey Davis. Between taking up the trumpet in his early teens just before World War II and his death in 1991, his destiny was to be a musical leader. 'Porgy And Bess' was recorded in July and August 1958 in Columbia Records' New York studios. It took as its basis the famous Gershwin musical, and saw Gil Evans taking a modal approach to arrangement, turning away from the complex chord changes of bebop. 'Porgy And Bess' regularly crops up in Great Albums polls, and is arguably the best of Davis and Evans' joint projects alongside 'Sketches Of Spain'.
