THE ALAN BOWN - BBC Sessions 1967-1970 LP
Limited to 500 copies, black vinyl released in beautiful, laminated cover with cool pictures of the band. This 58 minute album contains radio sessions (live in studio with some basic overdubs) done by this great British but very underrated band for BBC between September 1967 and September 1970. All tracks were previously released on very rare BBC Transcription Service discs released in late 60's for promotional purposes only. Their incredibly good BBC stuff was much better performed (punchier, more dynamic) and better produced than their MGM, Deram and Island studio albums. On this album the band started as psychedelic rock band with some refreshing soul touches (Jimi Hendrix liked very much and used their own arrangement of All Along The Watchtower...) and finished as full blown progressive band similar to Colosseum, Mogul Thrash and If. This is tremendous stuff, but heard by very few listeners so far...
The band included Jess Roden (later in Bronco, Butts Band), Robert Palmer (Dada, Vinegar Joe and very successful solo carreer), John Anthony Helliwell (Supertramp) and Alan Bown (later in Jonesy).
The pressing is just fantastic (no noises at all) and the sound quality is perfect.
