In our eyes, there's no finer exponent of revivalist heavy funk than the Poets of Rhythm, a German band who has been keeping the flame alive for a new generation of DJs and dancers since the 1990s. Speaking of the '90s, this fine 45 boasts a previously unreleased "Part 2 - Instrumental" take on one of their earliest singles, 1994's "More Mess On My Thing". It's a fine chunk of Meters-esque Hammond funk that sounds like it could have been recorded in the mid 1970s. Over on the flip you'll find another previously unheard instrumental version of 1993 debut album track "Upper Class", which is a deeper and breezier affair that features some rather lovely flute and Rhodes solos.
