To describe any album as a melting pot is pretty lazy, but we're struggling to come up with a more on-point description for this one. The Billy Sullivan-fronted trio have a formidable reputation for live shows, wherein they are helped along by an additional three players, and in may ways this record captures the essence and attitude of those gigs perfectly. By that we're talking euphoric highs and emotionally-charged lows, blood, sweat, laughter and tears. Combining elements of funk, ska, indie, pop and jazz, theirs is a heavily textured sonic tapestry that's packed with energy and musical prowess, while their lyrics are driven by detailed takes on everyday actions as were pre-pandemic; for example '(Just Won't) Keep Me Down, which spins a yarn about the end of a night out in an average British town. Hearts on sleeves, then.
