Side 1. This Poem (Roots Unit alternative version) Side 2. Trenchtown Double Down (Roots Unit Stepping Razor version)

The shadowy Black Rox label out of Brighton returns after two years silence with some more dusty deep house delights that place the Black roots of the music front and centre. That's especially true of A side cut 'This Poem (Roots Unit alternative version)', which reframes the classic Bobby Konders track and the iconic 'Dis Poem' by Mutabaruka. This 2020 update drapes the track in plush swathes of string pads and undulating percussion perfect for mellower moments on and off the floor. Then Roots Unit tackle further aspects of Jamaican music culture with 'Trenchtown Double Down (Roots Unit Stepping Razor Version)', which samples a spread of vocal samples and straps them to a sparse but funky groove.
