There is certainly something different about Gothenburg. Perhaps it's the port city thing, or maybe the combination of Swedish style without the Stockholm attitude. Either way, the town has long been home to an outsized and celebrated music scene where strange and otherworldly are par for the course. Even within this context, though, Anna Von Hasswolff's work stands out.

All Thoughts Fly is the fifth full-length album from the composer, songwriter and pipe organist, and we find the latter at the centre of this effective exploration of melody, refrain and timbre. Recorded in her home city on a replica of the Arp Schnitger organ in Germany and the largest in the world tuned to Quarter-comma meantone temperament, if that means nothing let's just say it sounds vast yet precise, commanding but with audible soft spots. And it could not be better experienced than through these seven track.
