Carlo Troja aka Don Carlos was active during Italy's golden days, the years that saw the likes of Beppe Loda and the rest of the 'cosmic' crew pave the way for what was to then become house music as we know it in Europe. Although he was an influential DJ as far back as the 1970s, Troja only released his first EP in 1991, the beautiful Alone that is reissued here with the help of Groovin. The Paradise mix in any house-heads dream come true, a bass-heavy club nugget that contains just the right balance between funky and deep; the Flute house version adds in a layer of beautiful chirps for added sexiness; and the Sax Ambient mix is perhaps the best moment on here, keeping those starry synths well in the mix alongside cool piano keys. Hot and warmly recommended.
