Because of the law in France that dictates a certain percentage of music played on public radio must be in the French language, there has long been a steady stream of vital and native speaking hip hop acts to come from the country. Of course, MC Solaar is the most celebrated of them all, but French alternative rap band Svinkels, formed in 1994, are also red hot. Rechute is their first album since 2008's Dirty Centre and is a raw, real expression of streetwise swagger. The beats are timeless and taken from a wide sphere of reference, with plenty of horns and rock riffs, icy trap touches and nods to dub colouring them in.
