Metal
We've all heard of concept albums, for better or worse, but Ghost could easily be labelled a concept band. Of sorts, at least. If you're new to this particular macabre party then the band have previously outlined that their focus is utilising lessons learnt, mistakes and glories of empires both ancient and recent, with each new record loosely theming itself in a different era, and past excursions including 2018's Prequelle, a doom-laden work that dealt with the bubonic plague, and strangely pre-empted this century's first pandemic.
Now we've left the Dark Ages behind in favour of a period in time that seems to be removed from the history books as we knew them, trappings of steampunk more than visible in iconography such as the video for 'Call Me Sunshine'. Musically, though, this makes little difference, with the same combination of drama, theatrics, and metal present and correct.
